I find the best thing to do is to play a mix have some big field mtts to allow for nice scores but also play smaller fields where the field is like 20-50 with large volume if your a profitable player you will make a consistent income from the game.

I think also a lot of people make it much harder for themselves by the way they apply themselves. Like if I was to target cash games on pokerstars where the standard is highest I would likely really be struggling to break even or make a decent wage.

game selection is important. whenever I play sit and goes or tournaments I do a lot of initial sharkscoping. if I am playing single table sngs on a particular site I will start by playing less tables to begin with and literally sharkscoping everyone. this lets me know how reg infested the game is thus how beatable it might be.

when I prepare to move up stakes in mtts again I do a lot of sharkscoping to gage an idea of what standard I am up against. Make no mistake about it if your going to ever make a lot of money from poker your likely going to have to eventually play fields that are heavily reg infested. However that is not what you need to do at the start and you can get a living wage playing weak players.

after that you can get coaching and study and have a bankroll to play in games with decent players.
