...should I track in PT3 before getting a good idea of my style or whether I'm a winning player?

Sorry we didn't have a good answer for you. What are you playing, FR or 6-max and what stakes, MTTs or SNGs, what stakes and turbos or not?

A "small" sample size is 15k hands or so. You really need 35-50k to get a pretty solid sample.

With that said, playing that many hands at 2NL is a little rough.

15K hands sounds about right although you should be able to start making some assumptions at around half that.
