How much time do you guys put into to the work of poker?

What i mean is how much time do you guys put into studying the game of poker away from the tables. I am probably the laziest person when it comes to putting in any kind of work away from the tables. I used to put in work when i was younger and I could see the difference in then and now. I have a lot better swings when i put in work I am just interested in how many hours you guys put in away from the tables?

When I first started playing the game I spent quite a lot of timme learning, reading and going over sessions.
After comming back from an extended break from poker, I just play for fun today.
I think if you want to be a serious plyer though, you need to keep up with the read and self analasys in order to improve.

I put very little effort into studying poker and it is reflected in my results.
For me it is a hobby and if I had to work at it it wouldn't be.
There are a lot easier ways to make money with less effort.

Now I spend a lot of time for study poker materials ( read forum , various articles , watch VODs .sometimes read books ) as a percentage of approximately 85/15 .. 85% study , and 15% only game... No desire to play much better this time to spend on training..

And I can say my results in the game, much improved...

It varies. Poker is a hobby for me too, which means in part that it's something I do primarily for enjoyment. Of course, winning money factors into the enjoyment. So, I there are periods when I work on my game quite a bit - more hours than I play - but at other times, I do very little.

I tend to agree with Arjonuis. Whether you play poker just as a hobby or seriously I think you need to put aside time for learning otherwise the enjoyment will quickly taken away from you, (unless of course you are a multi-millionaire and cannot think of another way of getting rid of your money), by the way I can help you with that!!

I spend about 50% of my time learning poker and must say I have got better over the course of my time because of it. There are so many ways to learn, my favourite being by watching videos. This I think is the easy option, but other ways such as reading can be very useful. Good luck whichever way you choose, but I think everyone needs to do some sort of training/learning.

I spend a few hours a week reading and watching youtube videos. Many pros of the poker world have a large amount of videos on a range of topics. Youtube is a great way to look up exactly what u want to learn or improve.

Long long time ago, I had read almost 10-15 poker books.

For now, its pure playing.

Surely you can shortcut your improvement by reading and playing together.

I just play for the fun and rush basically. Read a few basic books few years back which may or may not have helped. I did take about 6 months off playing poker this year which seemed to have the biggest impact on improving my play.

If you want to be professional you really need to spent more than 2 hours daily but if you play just for fun its good to play just 30 minutes per day !

At the end of every session I spend some time on the Vs Player tab in HEM2 seeing if I've been playing well or kermitting it up. With the study side of thing I have lots of memory palaces where I've stored up various strategy books. I try and commit a chapter to memory every time I sit down to study. I try and do as many of the pokerschool online sessions at pokerstars as I can. Every 100K hands I go through every starting hand and situation that I can think of and see what's showing a profit and what isn't (eg A7o from CO vs 2 limpers... 87 from Button vs 1 raiser). It takes a lot of time but it helps find leaks not only in my game but in my opponents. I also look at the leakbuster reports and try and work on a leak a month to see if I can vanquish it. As for playing, I try and play a minimum of 3k hands a day(which doesn't take that long multitabling.) unless I'm having some time off which I have to do from time to time for the sake of my sanity and my real life.

Therefore... the answer to your question .. is too much and then some more

HMMMM How much time ????

It all depends on a few things like how fast a person understands and can get a good understanding of what they are learning. Some players learn faster then others which is no problem as long as you are learning what needs to be learned.

Putting a date and thinking by that time you should be making so much money could be a misconception for players because they want to rush and make the money as soon as possible.

My opinion is this you cant rush what a player needs to understand and get the experience to be good at it ( Im not Saying great ). It depends on the player .

Meh, not as much as I should....maybe 30 mins reading something poker related about hands....2 hours a week .on vids or tournaments to watch.

Did someone say they spend almost 6 to 1 study to play???

Great input guys thanks for all your posts. Very informative and Gud2-1 I agree that certain people probably take a lot longer to learn concepts than others. Im currently aiming for 15-20 hours a week studying and 15-20 hours playing very difficult though since i have a day job.

I strive to put in a review of not only individual hands but also overall session trends after each block of tourneys. Usually do an hour of review for every 6-8 hours of play. That varies though, sometimes it's more.

I think I spend MORE time reviewing the game of poker as a whole than actually playing.

Whenever I am too tired or don't feel like playing, I usually spend that time reading poker articles & guides, railing/watching all the different level of cash game tables to see how the "sharks" are playing at each level. I'm watching the MTT chip leader & shortest stack to see what they're shoving with.

I can go on and on... lol. Cliff Notes: I probably spend more time observing and trying to learn than actually playing. I hate playing while fatigued; it just leads to dumb mistakes.

We have a poker group that meets 5 hours a week to discuss hands. We will sometimes meet additionally if one of the 3 of us wishes to review a hand.
