How to start a Charity Poker Room?

hey guys, i've been pondering this a lot lately. how do they work, is it incredibly difficult to start one, do you work the deal out between the charity and state, etc ? very curious as to if anoyone has any insight on this. i live in Connecticut and have never came across one, but I would think if half or so income from rake goes to charity it would be not so difficult to begin?

can anyone weigh in on this?

LOL at charity, most of poker players are losing. Those losing player maybe in debt etc, and they are the one who needs charity most. Poor people? at least they are not in minus state. Ironic.

legal way to get the fix in town without having to go to a casino. if there were a room in my surrounding towns it would be packed beyond belief. a piece of the payout going to charity making it legal, players still competing and winning money, it would work. i know there are a few of them around

chicago has 2 area charity poker games chicago charitables and rockford charitables. both attract decent numer of players. players are soft but the charity does take a big rake. i dont really know how it works or how to start one up

I live 12 miles from Harrahs Cherokee and they run2 charity events yearly.From what i understood fromthe poker room mgr and a couple dealers all charity events are highly observed ,even more than wsop event held there and even daily play.They stated that any winnings for these events are taxable,state and federal.The poker room is the only game I know in casino where winnings over 2000.00 dollars is nontaxable.I have cashed a few times in cash play and tourny play and never had to sign 1099. The only problem i see with charity events is that all money won by player or house is automatically deducted by approx 52% in our state,and you cannot deduct your buyins or losses.Thats for charity events only,not daily cash or tourny play.crazy huh?
