I still cant understand why online poker is bannd in USA by legislation

I think if people dont want children to gamble,they can just ban those under 18 to register.In USA ,there are a lot of skilled poker players,especially those pro poker stars,and there are a lot of good poker books written by USA pros.How cant those pros to let people know that poker is not gamble.

Money.

There really isn't a need to explain beyond that. There were a handful of terrible business decisions made by a few bad sites, but bottom line is money.

The American Government wants their cut, and by damn they will get it. Poker will come back online for the USA (already has in Nevada), but it will take a little more time until they figure out how to make sure they get their cut.

Online gambling is not actually banned by legislation. There's just this fuzzy legal gray area where state restrictions/bans are enforced by the federal government, so if gambling sites step a toe out of line they get the ax.

Money is one reason, but ultimately the actual reason is morality. Most politicians are rusty, aging, conservative bureaucrats, and dislike gambling -- plus many demographics on both sides of the aisle dislike gambling too, and many others don't care. Gambling-rights movements are really only strong in socially liberal or fiscally conservative states out West (most notably Nevada and California).

If all they wanted was a cut they could just take it - that can't be it.

It is because our government is run by a bunch of idiots who think any form of gambling - and they include poker in that - is bad for everyone.

I think the main reason is money, otherwise why is it legal to play live poker at casinos in the US? (I'm actually asking here, there may be an answer to this question I ignore).

It is not legal in most states.

Part of the reason is money laundering, it use to be real easy to turn dirty money clean on poker sites. I think legalizing poker in the u.s. will take a really long time.

You just look for someone depositing a butt load of cash and withdrawing it or someone making a P2P transfer for say 1K+, you red flag the account and if it happens again, with in a short amount of time you then lock the account down. It's not hard to find out, who's doing money laundering!

its not only p2p. You sit down heads up against your cousin who robbed a bank somewhere and play 10000NL. he loses all his money to you heads up. you take the stolen money cash it out and its then clean.

There are ways to launder money on poker sites, if anyone wanted to ,they probably could. Im no expert as im not laundering money, but if i could think of this imagine what people who actually are doing this could think about, so it IS a legit concern for the governments.

yes,sure they can, but whos ever going to bother looking into every hand of every heads up game. im not saying chip dumping. im saying someone who looks like a fish plays heads up againstsomeone who is good. its Heads up no limit, the supposed fish makes a bad all in call(while on the phone with partner) and ships 10 buy ins . no biggie.

but ur right,it can be traced if anyone notices .

If your cousin deposits a certain amount at once then it is supposed to be reported to the government. They could also look at multiple deposits equaling a large sum and compare it to his known earnings.

I think sometimes: Pokerstars has around 250,000 people online during peak times and that number is without having U.S players.

I wonder what the prize pools would be if U.S players could get back on board and play properly. It would be huge. How many people do you guys think used to play on stars in the us before they banned it? approximately? (im talking about on a daily basis)

the majority of players now are probably russian. the russians have gone crazy with pokerstars and they are everywhere. and there are so many of them they are taking over the darn site. Dont have any problem with them or anything. its just that they are soo many. in comparison to people from other countries..

there's different schools of thought..1 to prevent card room scams. plausible. the most common used is religion. here in KY religion is the core behind the ban yet horse race betting is legal. bottom line i'm betting it's to drive more attendance to the brick and mortor casinos. i'm pretty sure there's some sort of lobbying going on

Poker isn't the BM staple. They make nothing on poker. They recruit handle pullers and blackjack junkies.

Video poker is the future in Vegas.

because most of the online poker rooms does not pay fee/tax

to hold a online "legal" license.

Government needs to get money, like a company. They find they lost their income potentially showing on the paperwork...so they trying to ban/catch what is called "money thiefs"

that is why banned.
