Idiotic thing i did in poker

Well, I do idiotic things in poker all the time, so I'll just state my latest. I hade AA. I raised pretty good pre flop, maybe 3xBB. Had one caller. After flop I raised the pot $600. This guy stayed with me. I had a pretty good chip lead before this hand at the final table. Instead of going all in after the turn, I checked which gave him a free card and one that made his flush that he was chasing.Of course, before I knew what he had I went all in. So I gave him most of my chips in the process. It took me a long time to get over this studipness. Hope I'll do better in the future.

Yep, 80% of the time, bad things happen to me when I ever slow play AA. The more cards that fall, the worse that situation can get holding those cards. However, if he already had a flush draw on the flop, he might have called a decent raise by you anyway, so you might have been screwed no matter what--of course an all-in by you before that turn might have made him think a little longer about it, but too many people think that a flush draw is golden. For instance, I was playing a $50 SnG a couple days ago (1 table) and I got AA. There was a 3x blind raise before I acted preflop, one more caller before me, and then I reraised 6x blinds. Both players called, the flop came with two diamonds and low cards, I pushed all-in and got 1 caller. The guy turns over A 2 of diamonds and hits his flush on the turn. I have no idea what he was doing calling a reraise preflop with A 2 on a 50 dollar game. Anyway, the moral of my story is AA can hurt. lol

well you pretty much said it yourself. Rather than only concentrating on what you have, you have to constantly think about what your opponent might have (what he thinks you have, what you think he thinks you have etc) and act accordingly.

Aces are only a pair. And preflop is not where the game ends.

I dont preferably like slow playing the aces. Lots has happened to me when i do that, IE.. getting a flush or 2 pair 3 of a kind and so on.. Thats why i usually go all in before the flop.. I know sounds stupid but the person that usually calls has a low pair, and its even better when they dont get their card and u get thier chips.. Evil i know but thats poker! Go all in the next time u get aces and see what happens!

Bad AA story:
I'm short stacked in a tournament after a couple of missed hands. Not time to make a move but I need to get stacked so I can get back into comfortable play.

I get AA on the BB. Two limpers and it comes to me. I figure AA is strong enough to take on 2 players so I slow play (queue ominous music...).
Flop comes out rags. I raise 1/2 the pot. One fold then a re-raise to 2x my bet. I shove and they turn over a flopped two pair. I'm out of the tournament.

If I'd have bet the AA (like I usually do), I would have most likely have been safe.

AA Good (?) story

Different tournament. AA on the button. The guy to my right raises 3x BB. I 3-bet him to 9x BB and he calls.
Flop comes out rag-rag-Jack. He shoves. I say "You flopped two pair didn't you?", and he answers! "Nope, I don't have two pair". "Well you've got pocket Jacks, Fold". He flips over JJ. I show my AA and he says "How the hell did you lay that down!?".

It's not too hard when he practically told me what he had .

Lost my raises but stayed in the tournament to take 2nd

Slow playing the AA has bitten me a few times as well. Got to be willing to fold them when those straight and flush possibilities turn up. Otherwise you might as well go all-in pre-flop.

^^ This is not the worst move as a chip-leader at the FT, imo.

well if he did not make the flush you would have won so you really did not play it wrong he could also go with you if he went allinn an get his flush

+1 , but if he doesn't hit his flush and went with you the value would be greater.

ye happens quite often that flush hitting and taking down those bullits ive done the same thing b4 let them see a free card but i no its my fault that i gave them the the chance 2 hit there flush poker is so aggrivating some times hehe

he called your bets, checked the turn. Went all in on the river with the flush card. Why did you not just fold.? AA Is just top pair

You get good at poker by learning from your mistakes. It sounds like you identified your mistake, specifically, giving the free draw with two flush cards on the board. Next time, you make a bet big enough that you offer terrible pot odds to that draw, fold your opponant, and win the pot. You should tell the guy who drew out on you, "Thanks for the lesson."

i really don't like getting more than one caller on AA...i mean, its great if its the first level of a freeroll and you've shoved it cause you'll always get a caller or two and you gotta like the odds on that.

slow playing them is the biggest no no in the world. i think we've all done it, especially when you were a noob...that's so embarassing if your out of position and turn those aces over just to lose. i noticed a lot of ppl slow playing them will play them kinda funny...can't figure out why they're calling a huge bet when its almost obvious you've got trips or a flush. i see them most of the time when i've checked in on the BB. i don't think they realize all they're doing is giving me and everyone else free or cheap cards. almost every time...9 times out of 10, i'd have happily folded my JTo to a raise, i'd have been out of the way. i think its a psychological mistake, thinking you're invincible with these cards and you want EVERYONE to chip in the pot on this one. that's the worst thing, especially when you don't hit. ideally i'd like to double up, get a caller and get him out of there quick, or scare everyone off and take the blinds...that wouldn't hurt my feelings either

occasionally it works out for them though. because you just don't ever put them on having it. its still their dumb play though. sometimes donks will talk a lot of trash while playing this hand. can't be greedy when you're playin with rockets though, get it over with before they blow up on you

Yeah. When you see that theres straight or flush-danger after flop, go allin immediatelly. It was a lesson that everybody learns sooner or later.

i cold 4bet 64 suited all in once when we were all ~200big blinds deep. that was pretty weird.

I did my idiotic thing today...just simply forgot about a 1000$ freeroll.

I seen many call those all in flush draws too (It depends on the buy in)
I don't think he even looked at the board. Thats the problem with playing aces. Many people go blind when they get aces ,and the only thing they are thinking about is how much they can they win. Soo many time I've seen people just bet, bet, and bet without seeing the obvious flush or straight possibilties.
I'm even guilty of doing that.

It sucks when that happens. At least you know what to do next time.

his just calling showed that he was on flush draw and thats what u correctly put him on....giving him the free card could be a good way to play this if u are afraid of losing chips and u are satisfied with the way the pot stands...but when he hit....dont bet into him and dont call him all in

Yeah aces can lose easily. That's why there should be a raise to get one or two opponents not more. If you are lucky, they got KK/QQ/AK. 80% chance of winning is enough usually...if not, then it was tough luck.

Live and learn.....patience and paying attention to the board get difficult at times...we are all guilty of doing just what you did...learn from it and remember it for the next time

Pocket aces are just a pair. Sooner or later in poker you learn to not get that excited when you look down and find that AA or KK.
