I think that humans have little chance against artificial intelligence.

Setting up an AI system to play GTO optimal would be easy. It could instantly self-randomize options to prevent exploitation. AI could also view all tables and be able to know a player's true VPIP and 3-bet% etc, before you even face them. You wouldn't even need to be available to play, just set the parameters and take a nap.
This type cheating is what I worry about most, but a well run site should be able to detect this and block it (also using AI advancements). I doubt we will see this in very low stake games.

AI could be useful as a learning tool. I would love to see a review AI tool that will go over your play and give you alternatives to where you may have messed up. Entering your tourney or cash play into AI then finding, "You entered a little loose here." "You should have bet this River." "Instead of donking here, a check-raise would be preferred."

AI can be used to cheat, and we must rely on the sites to monitor this or take our chances.
But AI can also be used to help us become a better player.
Much like the internet itself, AI is a tool for both good and evil.

*Written without the use of AI*

AI will eventually kill online poker, the only question is how long before the end, my guess is less than 5 years. By then AI software will be able to read the cards/action on a table and either provide real time assistance ("RTA") or actual play (i.e. "bots").

I can see AI being used defensively by platforms, as I'm sure it must already be to some extent. AI could learn how a player's game is developing and should be able to detect activity that isn't consistent with that, especially if the effect of any change is to make the player surprisingly more profitable.

Right now AI is not super smart when it comes to behaving like humans. It maybe buys the platforms some time but it's a long term threat for the online game.

It's a very interesting topic and after reading through the opinions of other community members I'm also a bit worried about the future of especially online poker, as like other members pointed out, a human no matter how much will study/ good at math is- will never be able to play Game Theory Optimal(like for example Cbet/ 3bet/ bluff etc. a certain % - a human can be close but never play this spots perfectly), but setting up an AI system to play GTO might be possible and if this 'things' can even collect info on their opponents from previous games and/or other sites, this can push the online cheating to a completely new level... hopefully the poker sites will find solutions to fight against it and AI won't eventually kill online poker...

Have a great end of 2024 everyone and Happy Holidays!

I think that using artificial intelligence in poker will bring a lot of problems, I think no one will want to play with a smart machine that can calculate millions of options in a second.

I think that at some point online poker will no longer be able to be regulated and a "fair game" will no longer be possible.

Playing live poker at the table could be possible if regulations do not lag behind technological advances.

For example, high-tech glasses that call up countless data and information about your fellow players at the table, analyze facial expressions and motor skills, etc... - must then also be recognized as such and banned.

Beyond all odds, GTO's... I'm a big believer in reading patterns much faster and more broadly than we humans can do... with this reading we wouldn't have or could have little chance of winning over the AI. I've seen cases where players claim that BOTs were at the table playing... it's hard to say but anything is possible these days.

I would like to think that it would impact future of online poker in a way that it would detect any software installed on users (players) computer that can enhance that player ability to gain any advantage. I would like to play online poker as is played live at the casino, with just a person with their mental advantages and disadvantages - in reality, this is hard to get because advanced players can play with two computers (one for play and the other for analysis) side by side or have printed ranges by their computer.

I think artificial intelligence has already been incorporated into the poker online program. And it determines its own measures of luck in every particular tournament.

One aspect that does not receive enough spotlight is the deployment of AI in safeguarding security and ensuring fair play among participants. Sophisticated machine learning models are employed to monitor patterns that could indicate fraudulent activities or collusion between players. By analyzing vast quantities of data and identifying irregularities, AI systems can flag suspicious behaviors with higher accuracy than ever before, thus maintaining the integrity of the platform.

I think AI has improved poker by helping players learn. With AI tools, it’s becoming more enjoyable and easier to improve at the game. It will also definitely help in the fight against cheating players. However we need regulations for AI tools because some of them might negatively impact online games. And it will getting difficult to play online poker as soon as everyone will use AI tools to make right decisions.

AI is already shaping poker and will continue to do so. Tools like solvers and simulators help players master GTO strategies, while online games face challenges from advanced bots and real-time assistance.
In the future, stricter anti-cheating measures will emerge, strategies will evolve beyond GTO to exploit human tendencies, and live poker may adapt with tech regulations. Games like Short Deck might gain popularity to stay ahead of AI dominance.
Overall, AI raises the skill level, making games tougher, but also opens new opportunities for learning.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has already made a significant impact on poker and will continue to shape its future. AI programs like "Pluribus" and "Libratus" have demonstrated remarkable strategic decision-making in no-limit heads-up and multi-player poker, showing that AI can outperform human players in certain contexts. AI will influence poker by improving online poker platforms with better anti-cheating measures, creating smarter bots, and enhancing player training tools. Over time, it may also provide deeper insights into optimal strategies, affecting how both professionals and recreational players approach the game. However, AI in poker also raises ethical questions, particularly in online play, where bots could be used unfairly.

It is certain that someone somewhere in the world, perhaps Russia, China or India is using AI right now, we do not yet know how, but whoever is doing it is making millions and no one has found out.

With AI, poker becomes less of a game of creativity and instinct, because the optimal decisions are already calculated.

Many people are already wary of AI infiltrating their lives...online poker might suffer because of it, but live poker will still be governed by the stress and mistakes players make on the spur of the moment.

I've been using ChatGPT to study. I take screenshots of hands I played and ask about probabilities and what I should have done in theory.

It depends how AI is used around the game or in the game. If it is used to play instead players it is not fair play, it is a cheating! And of course it is not for making the game more exciting, it just steals money from the players!
