For me, I say Stu Ungar. The only person to win 3 Main Event bracelets, and has 5 total bracelets. Yes, technically Johnny Moss has 3 as well, but the first one in 1970 was a vote. He didn't actually have to play to win. Which is why Ungar is the only one to win 3. And he's only 1 of 3, along with Doyle and Johnny Chan, to win back-to-back Main Events.

Who, in your opinion, do you think is the greatest of all time?

Have you heard of Chip Reese ?

If not, read this article:
*By all standards, Chip Reese is the greatest professional poker player of all time. He has won millions in cash games, millions in tournaments, and has played in almost every part of the world. Aside from his poker skill, Reese was loved and respected by the poker community until the day of his passing. He is an icon for poker and his legacy will live on forever ! *

Well said. If you can find the interview Reese gave to the old poker road, you'll see that in addition to being a great player, Chip had the ability to get 'live ones' into his games and have them happy to be there - a skill many modern players seem to lack.

Two other names that deserve consideration for excellence over length of time are Johnny Moss and, of course, Doyle Brunson.

Cheers!

In my opinion is David Edward Reese: playing HORSE he showed us how to master several poker variations, won $1,716,000 first prize when his A♣ Q♣

Daniel Negreanu is pretty awesome.
Phil Ivey plays some real good poker too.

There are a heap of others I like too but these two have completely different styles and when they are HU, rarely do they get a good read on each other.

I definitely love Negreanu, hes a great all around guy on top of being a top player who any would fear to have at their table. Ivey is definitely in the same category.

Yes. Of course I've heard of Chip Reese. And yes, he is definitely one of the greatest ever. But that doesn't change my opinion. IN MY OPINION, Stu Ungar is the best player ever. I don't expect everyone to agree. It's just MY OPINION.

Yeah. You should also check out High Roller: The Stu Ungar Story. Really good movie, and Michael Imperioli does a fantastic job playing Stu.

I know you are jesting, but it wasn't some Robin Hood child genius who outwitted other people - it was the rich owner of UB who had his game designed so he could cheat people.

I would say Doyle Brunson because he has held up through time & was a winner decade after decade after decade. I think if Stu Ungar wouldn't have been so reckless in his action off the table then it would have been awesome to see him wreck people decade after decade after decade.

Doyle Brunson - there at the start of WSOP - still able to play with the best at an advanced age (well he's nearly as old as me), produced the first really definite book (Super System) which helped and inspired us fish to keep on playing
