Just remember we all HOPE to be throwing around money on tables like that someday. I for one hope too and if you dont why are you even playing?

Well I for one don't have aspirations of throwing around 100's of thousands of dollars on online poker tables. If I did, why would I be spending time here writing on this thread in this forum? (not knocking the forum... just not sure it's where I'd be spending my time if I was working towards playing $500/$1,000 & up).

Why do I play? Many reasons. Mostly because I really enjoy the game. I also like competition (preferring MTTs) and winning. I seem to get as much enjoyment out of winning $18.00 for 1st in a micro tourney as I do winning $1,000 in another. I actually don't play for the money (as many seem to do)... it is way down on the list for motivating factors to play poker. I'm sure I'm not alone.
Even if I was rolled to play $500/1,000 I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be playing it. Touring around to different parts of the world to play some $10k buyin tournaments..... hmm....maybe.... some day... maybe not. Doesn't really matter to be honest.

I enjoy the competition of poker also but Id have to be crazy not to want to better myself to the point of being able to play any level I want to play successfully. Im sure not everyone wants to play for 100k a hand but To be able to

There's an outside chance someone could set something like this up to dump money for tax purposes - much more likely it's legit though :p

You realize it's just a bunch of pieces of paper with numbers on them, nothing more, nothing less.

Looks like Isildur1 just beat his previous loss record with $1.35 million to Antonious.

http://twitpic.com/qga7x

I wonder if he knows that he can only 2 of his cards and not all 4 in Omaha?.........

I can't conceive of losing $1,000 let alone 800k plus. What do you do with yourself after such a loss? You basically just cost yourself a house and car with change. Seriously what do you do/think?
actually he lost $439,479 but its still a crap load to lose

It's real money. The amount of money they are playing with has real life implications, if not for them (hard to believe), then for most regular working stiffs. I could live off that one hand for years. Those real life implications are why I am not likely to ever play at stakes like that or even close to that. It's not just pieces of paper or chips or numbers on a screen to me. It's a nice house, a car, all sorts of good things, for a long time. I don't think I could ever detach from the reality of that.

So, no, my goals in poker are far more limited. I do not aspire to play at that level -- just the thought makes me ill. I like to have fun playing. I enjoy playing at the (low) levels I am at, and aspire to moving up a level or two, if I can get a handle on higher levels. If I can adjust to the swings. At low levels, I don't play scared. The question is whether I can comfortably move up very far. It remains to be seen whether a higher bankroll will bring more comfort. There is likely a cap to my comfort level, regardless of bankroll.

I am as happy to win a tiny tournament for $10 as I am to do well in a bigger tournament for considerably more. I try to play with as much focus in the small tourneys as the big, and try to learn something every time I play. It's nice to win some money, not so nice to lose it. My goal is to win more, lose less. :D

By the way, they discuss him on the pokercast. It seems he's a 19 year old from Sweden, who put $2 mil on and started taking on the big guys. It's a big poker story, and it will be interesting to see where it goes.
