Or verifying your read. But letting your opponent know you have no read has nothing to do with etiquette. It might be bad strategy. But bad etiquette?

I do not see anything wrong with that, to ask about his hand. But it all depends on your opponent, he can refuse. Some poker sites do not show losing hands - that I think is not correct.

Only time should be when you called a river bet. Then they have to show. Otherwise - totally bad form.

lol, I am wondering about this question coming from you. Simply because I think you know way too much about the game to not know the answer to this question.

Show one, show all. It is bad etiquette to show any single player your hand and NOT show the rest of the table. If I see someone doing this, I will call them out immediately (I play mainly home games). At a casino game, the dealer should call them out immediately.

So, no, it is not bad etiquette at all. Just the opposite.

I did not read all the other answers, but I would not be surprised to find out my answer was very redundant.....

Home games I have no problem asking or being asked to show my cards, tournaments I prefer to keep my cards to myself

I don't think it ever hurts to ask, it is up to the player weather or not to show. I will usually show if asked for no matter what I have for cards I still won the hand. I usually show a good bluff once in a while trying to catch a call with the nuts.

I think some people don't get the question OP posed.............

It was: If one player shows another player his hand, and not the rest of the table, is it bad etiquette for a player who DID NOT see the hand to demand it be shown. The question was not about a player generally showing his hand or not.

This is a specific situation, and there are specific rules, and I assume OP was speaking of home games, and should one demand normal poker rules be enforced in a home game when this happens.

No it is not wrong if you ask to see cards, but it is not bad also if you refuse to show your cards. Now if only two of the players show cards each other this is strange and bad behavior.

No, all players have the right to see any other player's face up cards. There is an official rule that goes like this: "Show one show all!" In this situation, the floorman may be called via the dealer, the dealer may not accept the cards and shuffle them for a new hand until the situation has been cleared by the floorman.

It is much more bad etiquette of the player who only shows the hand to one player, because it is unfair and unsportsmanlike to give important information to just one player and to withhold it from all other players.
