The money is great if you win it . However, there is nothing like making it to a final table in a big tournament. I will allways remember A big stack tourney win in Vegas. The 63k for first was great but what I really wanted was the trophy and the picture.

But are you saying that where 63k is an insignificant amount of money to you relative to your net worth or someone who is employed in another field. Or are you saying that as a professional poker player and someone who just locked up tourney buy ins for a full years worth of BRM. Which gives you a full year of playing in regularly scheduled tourneys where any profit is your income that you use to buy groceries and pay rent and save for retirement.

I really don't think of the money wins and loses in poker. All I am striving to is progressing up the ladder to get to platinum on the star rewards.

Play for fun everyone.

i love playing live. online i just dont trust. it doesnt matter all you can say how safe it is, but there are still one's and zero's and i just dont trust. they say i complain about getting too many bad beats online, thats because you play a lot more hands online than live poker. yeah, sure!!! but that doesnt justify that 8 out of 10 times i go all in with the best hand, they hit right on the turn or in the river the winning card. and i notice that happens more often in sites like porkerstars and 888. and i play at betonline, sporstbetting, acr, unibet, ggpoker, u name it.

and that is why i dont play for the money. i play exactly like you mentioned, i love to see those pocket aces, kings, and winning a pot but i do hate when you loose with those hands too LOL.

and no matter they say poker is more skill than luck, im sorry, its 80% luck and 20% skill. because without luck your skill doesnt matter. you have to hit the winnnig card in the end and that will not come with your skills, but with luck

For me it is 100 % about the money. I do not like playing poker but I see it as my chance to maybe one day being able to afford to move out of an awful apartment with noisy neighbors. I really hate living here.

I think online poker is more about money. Live poker is more fun mainly with friends.

It is a difficult question to answer, for a simple reason ... In my opinion it is impossible to play poker without a money bet, but at the same time, in my case, money is not the only motivation that makes me play every day of my life. What are the others? I really don't know how to say it, but what I do know is that they exist. Regards.

It is true for a lot of players including my self, but do not underestimate how many poker wishful there are who dream of making it money wise in poker.

I actually think they are in the majority.

I think that all 100% want to earn, but the question is whether many of them soberly assess their chances close to zero

I believe that is why I like tournaments so much and not cash games, I love the feeling of advancing to the final table, winning or not is a lot of fun. That's why for me poker is leisure.

For me it's both. I started to play poker on ps to train before playing with my colleagues. So I started because of interest. But after a while I find myself thinking that i want their money:)

for me, poker is much more than money, it involves a lot of psychological balance and making quick decisions, a mental evolution, evolution both in poker and in life.

Wow, very interesting topic, so many interesting thoughts on the subject, I changed my opinion two or 03 times if it is about money or not and you know what I came to: I will think a little more. And I will continue reading this topic.

Hello Marcos, since 2003 many people got that dream you mention: be the next poker champion... just need a couple of bucks, grind hard and a bit of luck. That got stuck in the drkest corner of our brains hehehe... I bet many of us had quitted poker more thant a hand can't count tilted enough about the game, the luck, the bad calls and choices made. But whenever we got back on the horse (in a good way) we came stronger.. and still fighting to make hat dream come true, and of curse MONEY is a big humungus driver for many , but there is that part of being recognized as a better person and poker player over 8,000 individuals that bit the dust on their way.

good Luck (and pocket ACES!) to all!

Wow.

Thank you all for taking the time to read and comment on this post. I was looking for a bit of insight and I'm really glad to read so many different opinions on this subject.

I feel the need to clarify a couple of the points I tried to make, so I don't get misquoted.

1) I never claimed that poker should not be a game that involves money. Taking the monetary element away from the game would render it less attractive for many players. I agree with those who claim it is a central element of the sport per se.

2) Most of the players I know personally are not big money players who are chasing fortunes. I'll go as far as claiming that, while the thought of hitting a nice payday might remain in the back of their minds, most of them deeply enjoy the social aspects of poker and the strategic discussions that arise after each session.

3) I've spent more than enough years reading about poker statistics to know that my odds of becoming rich through poker are slim to none. Anyone whose brain is capable enough to understand the nuances needed to succeed regularly in poker should find little difficulty in getting a job with a higher $/hour ratio.

4) All those things considered, I find myself devoting endless hours to studying, reading, analyzing, discussing and of course playing poker. My hourly rates still suck and yet, even if I was guaranteed by the poker gods that I'd never make serious money playing, I'd still take my seat at the table with a smile on my face.

Feel free to call me a moron, I still feel it's not about the money.

That was never my intention, DS :D Your opinion is as valid as mine and it's OK for us to disagree.

I'll leave you with a question, though. Let's suppose you make it to the final table of one of the PokerStars Sunday Million Anniversary Tourneys and pocket north of 600k. Would you quit playing poker?
