What's the best bluff you've ever pulled off?

In the 100K Alpha 8 in South Africa I 4bet Phil Ivey w/ Q8dd. It was preflop but 4bet bluffing Ivey & getting him to fold was pretty special.

Hello Jeff, do you recommend that a cash game player should buy in for the minimum(40 big blinds) or the max buy in(100 big blinds)?

Hey Jeff, how do you prepare for a big upcoming tournament?

I play MTT's regularly in the micro and low stakes online and I recently won two tickets to a main event $100k GTD MTT in two weeks. I have never played a tourney this big at this stake and was wondering the best way I should prepare for it. Thanks!

Hey Jeff! Shorty here,

Are you the cheeky dude on the CardsChat Facebook page? :p We may have shared a few laughs if so...

Can you give your discord and twitch details please? Do you stream on both?

Think it would be super chill to just soak up the poker knowledge whilst watching you kill it at the tables.

Wishing you Good Luck & Great Wins! :D

I just think about playing good starting hands from the correct positions, realizing that as the time passes the deeper I get, try to make good decisions & not let the outcome of one hand on a table affect my choice on another!

I would say generally more if the other players are more, if people are sitting shorter you could do that though as it can be an advantage to risk less to win a big amount still!

No but it's good to have buy ins behind. Having a comfortable bankroll to play with helps but this rule is not written in stone!

Bluffed?

Personally, which is worse? Getting bluffed or getting rivered?

I had a good stack, and then in 10 hands, I lost all from the same player. It was like in 5 min. Every hand I played with him he had better cards, and I had some good hands. I never experienced this in live games. Did you ever have a same experience?

Is online poker rigged?
I play a lot of live poker, and it's so different that sometimes I also think it is rigged. I haven't found proof that it isn't. Especially after going through the Unibet scandal.

New to online poker

Hi jeff!! I’m not a new player to poker as I’ve played live poker at tables for quite some years now but online poker is so much different so hard to tell a bluff!! Any tips or techniques on telling a bluff in online poker?

Hi Jeff,

How hard were your beginnings in poker, and how long did it take to become a consistently winning player?
What was your motivation at the time and how did this happen?

cheers

Def getting bluffed! That you have the choice to have made the call. When you get rivered that is out of your control!

Yes this is super frustrating when you are being held over on! You have to remember to not take things personally. Was this player sitting to your left? Remember having position is very important & a big advantage so this would likely be the case that it seems they are beating you more often.

Live & online are very different. The timing of levels is different & style of play. Generally live is much softer competition then live. A $500 online tournament for example is much tougher then a live one.

Hey, Jeff!

I have two questions for you, both pertaining to live poker.

1. Is it feasible to make a living (for a single individual) by playing live $1/$2 NL?

2. Do you have any tips for making bluffs live? I tend to be reluctant to make bluffs due to nervousness. I am afraid that this nervousness will lead to tells and such. This is particularly relevant when making a (tough) decision as to whether to barrel or not, resulting in me taking the more passive approach.

Thanks for your help!

P.S. Rooting for you in the $10K :)

Yea I know,
I never take things personally, but I do get frustrated from time to time. especially when I played good, still ended getting owned.

When experiencing a downswing I recommend a few things. 1) Take an honest look at what is going on. Have you been running bad in big spots or do you feel like you have been getting your money in behind and being unsure.

Everybody goes through it, even the poker pros. Just a part of a game. For everybody don't let it be a letdown with the occasional getting your money in bad.
