if your local game is a $2-$5 nolimit game with a min buyin of $50 and a max of $200 and you wanted to start a bankroll so you could play on a regular basis what would you start your bankroll at?

I believe you would want 20 Max buy-ins, but I am not sure. I am guessing you would want to start your bankroll off at $4,000 If you wanted to be a regular at this local game.

Conventional wisdom suggests a 100 bb bankroll. Thats $500. It is a bit odd to see a $2-$5 NL game with a $200 max buy-in. $200 would usually cover $1-$2 NL games.

yeah i agree 200$ seems too low and so does the minimum of 50$ thats the min. at my 1/2$ home games...

100bbs? You need 300 big BETS for limit (= 600 bbs), and more for NL, although it is usually expressed in terms of max buy-ins, not big blinds. In this case, to play professionally you would probably want at least 50 buy ins ($10,000). The OP didn't say he wanted to go pro, only to play regularly, so realistically $5k is probably sufficient.

$20k is 100 buy-ins, so it's only a slight exaggeration.

I think we need Chuck or TB to clarify here.

I think you are not right here AG.
I won't claim correctness, but when talking about $100 max games, they are usually referring to the buyin being $100 max, and the games are usually $.50/$1 ring games.

For any single game at those stakes it would be wise to have the max ($200 in this case, $500 normally) to start the game. For a continuing effort (week in week out) a much larger bankroll would be best. Perhaps I misunderstood the OP.

If you're not asking for the amount of your total BR, then buy-in for the full $200.00

So, 50 buy-ins give or take (100 if you are a risk adverse nit like me). You can probably do it on 20 buy-ins if it's not on a professional level and your only source of income.
