Kentucky to ban online gambling

The bad thing is he used the promotion of gambling in his campaign. He wanted to do everything he could to legazlize the gambling He wanted to build a couple casinos and put out a few riverboats.

From what I understand, he's not actually wanting to stop it, he just wants control of the websites so that the state can make money off of them. What will happen is these businesses will go out of state and lose much revenue for the state.

What it is I (we) have done is, lasy week I sent an e-mail to Senator McCaine (I can't spell fer Sugar!) expressing my wishes as a registered voter and also I have personally CALLED my State legislator and personally told him on the phone what it was I (we) WANT as registered voters when it comes time to vote on bill S.66, the bill that would ban internet poker! And I was assured that as far as he knew this bill was not going to get passed anytime soon---But he spoke in 'political-lingo'---wishy-washy---no REAL commitment. AND we have lobbyests in Washington fighting for our rights! So, really, as an alliance with thousands of members, if we ALL stuck together and spoke out in one voice, there really is ALOT WE can do! On a serious note, this sucks bigtime. This might sound patronising, but it's not meant to be, but you guys work for your money, so should be allowed to spend it as you wish, and if that means poker, then so be it. These politicians live in their own little world, and think that what they say and think is right, and right for the working man/woman. I hope whoever you elect as president realises that online poker is a normal pastime, just like golf/sport etc, and millions of people enjoy it, and that they dont bring in a ban.

What's really sad is that IF every state could profit/benefit in taxes from online gaming, all they would do is squander it. Just like they have the profits from state lotteries.

Most states hyped lottos as the savior for their school systems. Has it worked? Not with politicians in control.

I think what irks them most is that Americans are throwing money hand over fist at the offshore gaming sites and here at home they can't get people to pay all their taxes - the ones that are collected to benefit "We the People". Will they ever wake up ???

If the US government allowed all the sites to be American-based, if they wish, and then took a 'rake' of say, 1% of the profits, surely everyone would benefit? The 'rake' recovered by the US government could be used to benefit American people, and the poker sites would know that they are legal, and the players would know that the 1% rake taken by the US government would benefit the US people in the long run?

Well yeah - Beshear has openly admitted that he wants to get online gambling banned in Kentucky to protect local gambling interests (horse racing etc obv). It's basically protectionism at its worst - "Only our shady bastards may profit from gambling".

Anyway, I'm no legal expert, but I would have thought that any half decent site would have contingency plans for a tosser like this throwing his weight around (registering abroad is a good starter point - how exactly does Beshear imagine he's going to force registrars anywhere but in the US to surrender the domain names?)

There's supposed to be a hearing today last I heard, so maybe we will know more soon. Again though, how exactly a stupid hick court in Kentucky is going to be able to force overseas registrars to do anything is beyond me.

Is there any update on the goings on in ly. This is a very live issue for me and hope we can continue to get information.

this whole thing about online gambling in the US comes down to one thing.... money.

Not the money that hard working citizens of the US are spending their money on moral questionable pastimes... but that they are spending their money with organisations that are not US based. The industry generates over US$20bn a year now and close to half comes from the US.

Thats an awful lot of money that can be spent on wars leaving the naions shores.

Understand... this is the ONLY reason why there is issue with online gambling. Like a previous poster said... what about porn? Why not crack down on the legalised gambling? What about drugs, prostitues, alcohol, speeding?

Ahhhh.. these all generate revenues that stay WITHIN the borders...... they should just legalise and be done with it.
