I live in an area where my wife and I (both poker players) do not know a lot of people that play poker.

We'd love to get a casual friendly home game up an running every few weeks, but have no clue as to how to find individuals that are both interested and interesting.

Anyone have any suggestions or success stories?

Thanks...

Watch for charity events in the area that include a casino night and attend them and ask some questions. Try Google searches and places like Poker Meetup

I wore my Full Tilt hat to work one day and was approached by a couple of people about home games... I'd say work environment is your best bet, excluding a bar league.

Craigslist is possible too if it isn't illegal where you live.

The problem with this is that we are swingers too... so it may be harder to have the balls to try pull the straight when going up against a set of queens.

Did this once an ended up getting invited to a huge money game... thank god I won, but the stress was crazy... ended up being a bunch of big time attorneys playing for wads of cash... all trying to out ego the next person... thank god it was a lucky night for me...

You might have luck if you join a local club where lots of people with like interests get together, such as a veterans association or Moose or Elks Club. I joined to play with a ladies group and have never looked back.

You can also try here and here. However, please use caution in ANY interaction involving strangers and cash.

I know you are talking about home games, but why not hit the casino? Like AG said, I'd be extremely careful with strangers and cash.

Heres a map of local card rooms near you:

Thanks for all the great input... we just got back from a cruise and my wife insisted that we bring our chip set... all it took was one walk through the "lobby" area and bam... people came out of the woodwork to ask us if that could play... the wife won every game... I am never gonna hear the end of it...

If you live in a HOA community, maybe talk to your HOA about setting up a neighborhood tourney.

I say try one or both of these...

Bring it up as 'water cooler' talk at work, and gauge people's reactions. Then go from there.
Or, if your city has a weekly news-rag, Village Voice-type alternative paper, a lot of time they have listings in the back that list several bars and their weekly happenings/specials, which might show places doing poker league sor tourneys.
