On a side note:

I have mixed feelings about home games. In terms of playing against friends. I dislike having a long term advantage on my friends in terms of their skill level, knowing what they play, their typical income, their betting behavior, likelihood of them calling with bottom pair etc. Although it has helped me to FINALLY pick up reads but ONLY on my friends that try to play serious.

Even if I go to the casino with a friend I will do my best to sit at a different table to avoid the heads up confrontation with a friend. Nothing makes you feel worse than having to fold/call the best hand because your friend is playing with his last $200 until Friday and it's Saturday Night. Of course you can take it and give it back later but you can't ship the chips back across the table to a busted out player.

I think the way to look at it is either your friend is a poker player or he isn't.

If he is, then you should be trying to get his money.. that is what poker is all about.. At the same time you should advise him of BRM etc.

If he isn't really a player.. just plays the odd game for fun, then your goal should still be the same.. but the buyins should be extremely low.

Non of my non-poker friends who still play the odd game would even consider buying into a game that represtented a lot of money to them.. they just wouldn't feel they'd have any chance of winning. Again, ths should be explained to your friend.

But if he still wants to hand his money over to the poker community; why shouldn't you gat a share?
