losing chips while posting blinds

i just want to know what you people think about such a thing:
i have frequently noticed that BB and SB losing chips by calling simple double raise and then folding. to be honest, i call these raises myself quite often,especially when blinds are small, but it happens in all kinds of tournaments, both in high and low buy-in tourneys. has it something to do with psychology,meaning - maybe, for example, my 87 hit the straight etc. what is it all about? fond hopes? trusting in good luck?

I think that you have hit on an important part of tourny play, I am reading Moshmans sng book at the moment and he explains that when you need to push a 89s is not a massive dog to AA or other power hands.

So in theory its not a massive mistake with some hands but of course if you kept doing this in tourneys you wouldnt last long as gradually your chips would dwindle.

One of the times i like doing this is if there are a lot of people in the hand and they all just check call a min raise then ill seriously consider adding an extra blinds worth of chips just in case I flop something big because chances are if you do people wont be letting go off the larger pocket pairs. Maybe someone with tracking software can add more valuble imput on this matter, I would be intrested to hear what the numbers are.

Calling these small raises in the SB & BB when ur getting very good odds is only profitable when playin cards that are connecting eg: 56 47 6T (suited or non suited) and tryin to hit big with straights/2pair or full houses, but be expected to check/fold the flop because 70% of the time ur gonna miss with them.

But if the blinds are huge n a call can take 1/10 of ur stack u better be thinkin of folding n using ur chips for a better spot.
That's my point of view.

You can raise in your turn and actually you throw the ball to the BB's player. Now he has your problem, he has to decide what to do

GUILTY!!

I don't know why I take it so personally when someone min raises my big lind, but I often find myself tossing in more chips defending my BB, with a hand that I'd never even call with in another position...the pot odds don't have anything to do with it for me, I just have the compulsion to enter the hand.

This happens when the blinds are still relatively low for me, and I need to stop it!! I generally push back with a reraise hoping that in the future the other players at the table will know that I will defend my blinds, and they will back of trying to steal my blinds.

I will not call every raise. but give me 2 suited cards or any connectors and I will call a double raise. The odds are almost always there with a couple callers

Its a coin flip on this but I choose to do the same thing... Especially if the blinds are fairly low...

i think the people who min raise, and get called by the bb or sb, and get donked on derserve it, you just invite all type of cards to the hand, and if you miss the flop or the blinds bet and you didnt hit, then you would have to fold yourself and lose those and you could have got yourself in that with a proper raise, i call almost all min unless deep in a tourney and my chip size wont let me

Low risk, high reward situation if you have a playable hand, though I have noticed that certain people get attached to there blinds and will call a small raise with almost anything. You can handle having AA get beat by 78 suited, but when it's 95 off, it's a real killer just cause you can't imagine anyone with half a brain playing that hand under any circumstance where a raise is involved.

If I'm in the SB, I usually will fold unless I have a good hand, cause acting first after the flop can suck, but if the blinds are low and I get minraised...I'm not folding unless I have garbage, It's pretty much worth one bet when you already put one in. Hands like j9 I'm not playing UTG but out of the big blind i don't have as much of a problem.

You gotta love when they only double the blind with a big hand like AA/KK
only to have it crushed when you flop a set or two pair, then they call you a donkey. I usually dont mind folding to those small raises, depending on my hand of course. but I think making these calls deep into a mtt should depend alot on playing the player. You know when you have that guy at the table that raises every three hands and is annoying the crap out of you, I always like to give those guys a call because chances are if you hit you can check into him and if he continues his aggressiveness you can use it against him to pad your stack. I think you should go about it in different ways depending on the game type and the players and the table.

i do try way to much to protect my blinds and it has cost me getting into the money so now we start a new era if it aint good enough to raise dont bet it really hurts in the sb always figure your half in any how got to learn more restraint in this game so many variances .

I won't always call, but if my stack or cards allow me, I will definately punish minimum raisers from the blinds. Almost a guarateed double if you hit flop big and easy fold if you miss. There is a spot for min raising but preflop in unopened pots is not one. I see that alot in freerolls and quarter games but not very often games with better competition.

My son can tell you, one of my favorite sayings is " Punish the min raiser!"

u have to call min bets somtimes on your bb,otherwise your bb will loose u a lot ov chips if u dont defend it afew times,,,,,the good players on the tab will attak u with no mercy....

I`ll call raises from SB/BB with suited or not connectors, suited gappers , suited Aces only in a deep stack tourney or cash games.. no way i`m doing that in short stack tournaments ..

Why min raise? Everyone is still going to go and the more go the less ur odds. 2.5 has become the standard to insure quality of hands unless they r a calling station.

I think it has to do with odds more than feelings.You are getting better odds to call with any two cards. But there is a flip side to that coin, the more you call the raises the more money you lose, especially when you are folding after the flop. The better players that make these calls would take more risks and chances by bluffing oppose to just folding. You have to play around with it and pick your spots.

I love people like you.

Hint: I don't make money by having people fold to proper raises, I make money by people making mistakes. People make a lot of mistakes when they call minraises from the blinds really wide and I get to play in position against them. I'll take that all day.
