I just watched the replay of the final table for the Hem section of the
WSOP players championship. Wow - was he bad! He made mistake after mistake after mistake and then won. It's disappointing to me this happens at the pro level. Oh well.

I don’t know about that. Ive only seen little bits of it here and there on espn, but I followed it with updates online when it happened.

The important piece of info that u gotta remember here is that he knew the playing styles and what type of hands his opponents play very well so he could adjust to them.

I mean, come on his brother and Oppenheim? who im sure he knows from playing cash games with very well.

Besides that hes not known to be a rocky dewey tomko type player anyway, so what do u expect? Lol. Im not a fan of his, but I think he knows what hes doing. or hes on a really awesome winning streak from his results over the last few yrs.

Now if u had put some1 like saaay, like Brandon cantu up here, hmmmmmmmm, I wonder, lolololololo.

If you go back and watch the two hour special from last night, M. Mizrachi was just about busted out after Oppenheim flopped a set of fours and destroyed his stack. But the cards absolutely fell all over Mizrachi from that point on allowing him to make the comeback. He was hitting four outers and six outers like crazy on the river...it's easy to win when you're catching the cards. I don't think he's even close to being the best player at that table.

As already mentioned, he made an amazing comeback.

He's always been respected as a top player & for those who didn't respect him before, really should now.

well the grinder certainly knows what he is doing but he became quite the calling station toward the end.

Just watch the replay, the dude absolutely hit every flop and if he needed a gutshot on the river it came in for him. I think he's a good player but even many people here would've probably went deep on that final table if given Mizrachi's cards. The Russian should've won the thing, Mizrachi was dominated with his A4c and flopped a four flush and of course sucked out on the river. Pure luck at that point.

Keep in mind that you are watching the final table condensed into less than two hours. Not to mention the several days of play prior to that to make it to the final table.

So Ill cut him some slack and say he knows what he's doing. Hell he's at the final table of the main event too... Im not saying he "lucked" his way through both fields.

I watched this last night too, and Mizrachi had absolutely no read on Vladimir Schemelev. Mizrachi was betting into the Russian almost every hand, not knowing when to slow down. He caught trips on the turn and the river, which doubled him up drastically and then went all in with A/7 suited against A/J off, and caught a flush on the river. He was without a doubt outplayed by the Russian, regardless of winning.

It's easy to pass judgment based on the hands they show, but you have to realize they show a tiny fraction of the hands played. Just look at the 2008 ME final table, which I was reading about recently (actually listening to while catching up on old podcasts). It took something like 42 hrs as I recall. They broadcast 2 hours. Dennis Phillips said he went about 2 hours at one stretch without playing a single hand. When it got to HU between Eastgate and Demidov, it lasted 2 more hours I think. Yet they only showed 2 HU hands, LOL.

Point being, it might be HOURS between the hands they televise. To you and me it looks like they played from one hand right into another, but that isn't usually the case, and it can seriously skew the perception of how they're playing.

I've seen Mizrachi play through the years, and he's a solid player. Over $8.6M in tourney winnings. 20 wsop cashes. In the 2005 WSOP he tied the record for the most cashes in one year at seven. 2006 Player of the Year. Member of this year's (2010) November Nine, currently 7th in chips. Nobody with any knowledge of him can say he doesn't know how to play the game well.

I'm sorry, but I agree...Mizrachi was playing terribly, especially in the heads-up against the Russian, and then he just started getting lucky and sucked out the win.

Sure, maybe they only show a fraction of the hands heads-up, but I assume most of those are the "important" hands. And he was frankly just making terrible bets, terrible calls, and almost ended up getting totally run over until the cards said, "Hey, we'll save you Mikey!"

"Important" how? Important to ESPN does not usually mean important to poker players. They're interested in showing entertaining hands, which can take a lot of different shapes. Huge pots, flashy hands, huge suckouts. Or bad calls like Mizrachi was making where it looks like he'll bust at any minute but then catch some lucky cards to win.

Again, you can't argue with his results. Some of you are implying that he's some kind of donk, or I dare say a Moneymaker. Explain how such a bad player has had the consistent success that he's had? I'm not excusing all of his calls in that match, but who among us -- let alone any pro you can name -- hasn't made horrible reads and calls before?

I watched a bit of it... I take it as the victim of the edit room floor. You simply can't win every hand and not trying to sneak a few hands, well, good luck winning that tournament.

He's a good player but I've watched some of his career highlights these last few years and I'm telling you, he's a card rack. Hell, I win big too when I flop monsters and get paid off or better yet, I chase the gutshot and it somehow hits. Mizrachi has done this throughout his career, heck, his brother Robert is a much better player than Mike.

That's just it, he wasn't even doing that. If I remember right, he kept flat calling with air over and over. If he were re-raising or something, sure. But continually flat calling with air is just weird.

I'll just assume he was tired or whatever.

MM has 8.6 million in tourney cashes? My source said he went into this years WSOP in debt and if he didn't make a substantial cash he would be out of poker for a while. I know he likes to party and spend cash, but how do blow through that kind of change?

He has the record (tied) for most WSOP cashes in one year with 7, back in 2005. He's cashed a total of 20 times in the WSOP for just over $2 mil.. he one the WPT LA Classic one year for $1.5 mil.. won the 2006 Borgata Winter Open for $1.1 mil, and of course, the $50,000 Players Championship for $1.5 mil.. not mention being a November 9'er, which he's guarenteed over $1 mil.

If he finishes first or second at the FT in Nov., he will become #1 on the all time money list for tourney players. Would you still make that if that happens?

Is why so many donks still hit the online poker scene after the 2003 online boom thanks to Chris Moneymaker. They see bad plays, bad calls, huge suckouts, and think "Poker is easy" and they come and give their money to us... well not to me, but to you guys, I'm the biggest fish in the sea, I just love to play.

Michael Mizrachi got game. Luck is part of the game. he deserve some luck. He didn't get to the final table by luck, he must've played well to get to a final table in the first place, right? And his past cashing in and his winning this year prove it.

Thank you for the thread suggestion. The situation couldn't have got more comic as I am the author of the thread that you mentioned.
At this time things start to square up, I now know who is the palyer that at the beginning of June I described as experienced player.
