MTT are just not worth the time

if you're playing for an 'hourly rate' then why would you even begin to consider playing in a $2 MTT in the first place?
The way I look at it, I'm playing recreationally but also with the goal of building up my bankroll while doing so. MTT's are great for this.

I try to separate the money thing from playing poker... ie. I can have just as an enjoyable time playing poker in a CC freeroll as I can in a bigger buyin MTT. I'm playing to play poker... not with the sole purpose being the prize money. Sure I play to win (who wouldn't?) but the monetary value isn't really all that important,.. if it was I'd be depositing $5K and playing solely in bigger buyins.

I like the comment above too about looking at the return on your investment (and with limited risk.... the most you can lose is your buyin.. hey.. you won 4x that... but also the chance to win far more if you go deep in one of them).

If you want to consistently make money, large MTT's are not for you.

Large MTT's are all about shooting for the moon (due to the top heavy prize structure of most), and if you do, you are going to experience huge variance. If you are playing just to make the money, you're much better off playing SnG's.

Yea, I hear you about the minimal ROI but top 5 usually pays quite well.

Like Damon said, try playing a few cheaper ones at a time or move up in stakes. Just remember not to break your bankroll.

It seems to me that all Mtts suck whenever you are playing with someone who doesn't care about the buy in. It is, however a nice way to build a bankroll using low buy in mtts.

As long as you take shots at satellites and such you can turn a cool profit, build your bankroll for some higher level SNGs. Multitabling also wouldn't hurt especially because the play in the beginning is mighty tight.

Just look at the 1000 dollar guarantee 10cent tournament at FullTilt. That thing, for 10 cents, will pump anybody's bankroll that is starting off from a freeroll win or whatever. I mean, u can get a 100000% return rate if u hit first place. That's crazy.

And for the other perspective - I almost never play turbo on anything I pay money for... but that just fits my style of play. The turbos (very generally speaking) tend to draw the all-in-first-few-hands kind of folks who try to hit it big early on so they can focus on their other tournaments that they have going simultaneously.

That's why I like playing the turbo tournaments and games in general. It really speeds up the game and you won't have to sit for 7-8 hours to make a few bucks.

Or, what other people have said play the higher stakes MTTs (only if you can afford it)

I agree with this alot,I always play low buyins when I can because I know people will push with marginal hands and these kinda tournies can pay out high reward with little risk.I personally think these tournies are quite easy and more often than not you can get all your chips in the middle with the best hand.

And even if the prizepool isn't very big on a low buy in Multi table tourney just remember its always good practice and use every situation to get better. These tourneys are cheap and great practice so that when you do get to move up in limits you are a better player.

Well I've managed to just about bust myself... stuck playing $0.25 multi table sit n gos and the $0.10 cash added tourneys on stars now

... my own fault really. Thats what happens when you play above your bankroll boys n girls!

I still think MTTs are better than single table or ring games though. I hate ring games cuz you always find somebody with an enormous bankroll who's willing to call huge bets preflop with crap hands just to see a flop and crack your aces with a straight or 2 pair. Oh the agony.

the whole point of an mtt is to have the least amount of risk possible.

by buying into these your not risking hardly any BR, but if you get far and lucky you could MAKE OVER 100 times your BR lol

the 1000 guranteed dosent pay 1000 to first thats total payout

While this is nice thinking it is entirely true by any stretch of the imagination. The game is played far differently at higher buyin levels (for the most part, although you still get loose/passive calling station donks in medium buyins as well ($10-$75) and some in higher than that).
The style of play that will take you deep in a super micro is quite a bit different from bigger buyin tourneys. Sticking to ABC in micros is pretty much essential and doesn't give you much of an oppurtunity to go much beyond level1 thinking for the most part.

Some of you are getting a little spoiled! So you sit in you e-z chair for a few hours...big deal. You multi-table several tournaments at the sametime.

Try doing it the old fashioned way: drive out to the casino. Pay a HUGE buy-in, get a hotel room, pay for food and beverage and the other associated traveling expenses. Then go play. Sometimes you spent more time and expense traveling than playing!!!!!!

Dunno, I'm a cheap bastard. I can sit there for a few a hours, drink some beers and my wife leaves me alone for only two or three bucks... that's a credit card commercial right there.

And, as a side note, I've gotten a first and a second in a 3$ mtt on FT the last two weeks... about 300$ and 200$ respectively. I like that kinda risk/reward, so it just depends on your perspective really.
