Daniel Negreanu 'tweeted' today that he'll be moving back to Canada after the wsop so we can expect to see him playing regularly online at Pokerstars.

Surprised there hasn't already been a run on the canadian border by poker players with laptops, seeking asylum and citizenship.

Guess they decided mexico was a better option.

I've seen a fair number of players online now playing in 'Canada' who were formerly 'US' but nowhere near as many as I thought there'd be (also thought perhaps there'd be more once the WSOP was finished... now with the FTP thing goin' on... maybe not quite as many but am sure it'll increase a bit). Actually had a couple of MTT regs. who were considering moving here to my place (really cheap town to live in where I'm at, houses rent for ~$600, 1bdrm. apts. $375)

It makes sense for him to do that. He is more of a live player then an online player, but the huge endorsement deal from Stars is guaranteed positive cash flow. Play some games online in Canada, hop on a plane to Vegas every now and then. Rinse. Repeat.

I have a couple of friends who, once the WSOP is done, they will be moving to Canada. They are from the Boston area and every year for the past 2 years they move to Vegas in March then move back to Boston in August. This year when they move out of Vegas, it will be north of the border.

If you check the official WSOP Entrants Lists, Daniel Negreanu moved from Las Vegas to Toronto sometime between Event #40 on June 23rd and Event #42 on June 24th.

Read a comment posted re: they guy who won the WSOP 6max (ender555, Joe Ebanks), saying that he'd be moving after the WSOP (with a $1mil+ cash to go).
{that was a stacked final table btw, all were online HSMTT regs.}

I wonder if we will see daniel playing at any local casinos. I've never been to vegas but hope too soon, but heck, if all the pros are moving to canada,whats the point?

Not gonna lie. It'll be a bit weird to be at a grocery store or a restaurant and bump into him. Not a huge deal, mind you.....but still, it'll be like "Aren't you supposed to be in Vegas???"

Okay, maybe not a grocery store, I don't have crazy amounts of money to buy organic and I am not, not ever will be a vegan.....(not that there's anything wrong with that.)

US players would have to move there, which isn't so easy. You can't just play from Canadian IP, you need residency. Daniel is Canadian so he can easily rent or buy a place.

I tried to play when I was in Canada and the site still knew my account was US, so I couldn't play.

If you have money to pay rent, it's just as easy for you to rent a place here in Canada as it is for Daniel. I read alot of posts in poker forums (lately.. since BF) & am kinda surprised by some of the stuff I read. To open a bank account > show proof of address & ID. To rent a place, 'show me the money' (I'm a landlord/property mgr. in Canada, renting out apt. buildings... trust me its easy to rent a place).
I heard the Stars rep. on the 2p2 pokerpodcast mentioning stuff about US residents re-locating to play online & his main suggestion was > if you're planning on playing in WCOOP, don't just show up in Canada a couple days before it starts & expect to be able to play in it (in other words > takes a bit of time to get your address on your account changed over to a different country on Pokerstars... I don't think it takes very long though).

I'm guessing there'll be quite a few US poker players moving after the WSOP series.

Canada rocks man, cheap housing, cheap weed @ $10/gram and very low gun crimes not to mention free health care if you don't mind waiting up to 6 hours to see a doc at the local ER for non-life threatening injuries.

Remember, LivB (Busquet) did it within 24 hours. He talked more about it on one of the podcasts. Called one of executive renting companies to get a furnished condo. Went to TD Bank, but had to prove his status, so he went to Bank Of Montreal. No issues. The bottleneck was just getting FTP to set him up. Took about 12 hours. It actually took longer with PS.
