What makes online play so much looser than brick games? It is amazing how much different people play when they are at a table at a casino.

Online = younger players = looser. At least from what I've been told.

I don't know about the rest of you's all, but "Online" & "Brick" poker are 2 different animals in themselves...I mean I play both and to tell you the truth I'm pretty loose in both of them, but I'd have to say I'm more looser in Live poker, and from what I've seen ppl tend to play more looser in live poker, rather then online, but then again this is from my own experiences, and not over a certain number of games at all...

As for the reason why I think this to be true, it's cuz ppl tend to interact with one another, and they tend to be drinking majority of the times when playing Live poker, so there-fore it actually becomes a more friendly scene even though everyone is out to get the other persons money still, and that's why I believe Live poker is far losser then Online...

Youre sure that online play is looser...what about live calling station donks, where 3/4 of table limp everyhand preflop etc? I dont share your opinion :)

A few reasons why online games are looser:
1) Youth (I would venture to say not all players are legally of age) + fearless = reckless luck box

2) Doesn't feel like real money. Process through your credit card or through a freeroll and you never have to reach into your purse and shell out cold, hard cash that you slaved for all week. There is less respect for money.

3) Micro stakes. Not too many places that I've seen where you can play for as little as 1/2 micro limits live. At a brick place 1/2 means $1/$2 not $.01/$.02. With so little at stakes why not take some crazy risk. So you lose a buck or two...so what.

4) New players who have no idea what they are doing, so they are experimenting with their own system to see what works or not. Unfortunately they suck out at your(mine) expense.

I agree with Lizzy's reasons. Especially number two. Much easier to click a mouse button in response to a large bet (or to make a large bet) then it is to physically put those chips into the pot, as in a casino.

I agree with your thoughts, besides less respect for money a lot of on line players have no respect for any one else at the table,also there are a few that are so rude & crude.

Never been to a Casino but this is just a thought because I also do not know the stakes that youre playing at online and in brick games, but could it also have something to do with the money someone stands to lose or gain (how much money is invested)? Just seems to me like you would invest less online than you would take to a casino but I could also be wrong.

The other thing about online vs. live is that 1/2 online is not like 1/2 live at all. 1/2 live is usually the lowest stakes and equates to probably 10nl or 25nl online (at best). A $100 tourney live is probably like a $10 MTT online.

I've always thought it was the other way around - low buy-in casino ring games (so $200-$500NL) are about as loose as poker gets. Here's why, AFAIK:

- People are only playing one table at a time and they're not seeing that many hands per hour. So they're more inclined to play the ones they do get dealt.

- The quality of the play is usually so bad that people think any two cards can win.

- There are a lot more pure gamblers (as opposed to poker-only players) at casino tables because they can just walk away from the craps table and sit down at poker. You can't sit down at an online poker table on a whim, you need to sign up and deposit.

- There's more drunks.

All these things = LOL loads of people playing loads of hands in live games.

Yea all true. But live players playing for actual money compare games to freerolls. Poker without risk isnt poker.

Live games are WAY WAY WAY looser and easier to beat, ive played live games for stakes that i wouldnt even consider playing online. Nl$10 online = $nl200/500 live. Its that simple. Anyone that says otherwise has zero experience playing both.
