If you want to play poker for a living then it's like this...... Most of the poker pros have shown that they make 3bb/100 winrate playing online poker around 200nl up to 1k nl. This is with like 2-4 tables. That is a terrible winrate but it's also the best winrate you can hope for. It's best you can hope for because that's what the pros make, the pros that make all the poker training videos etc that you learn from. It's terrible because online poker has a high std dev so variance with only 3bb/100 winrate means you can play poker for several years and after 1 million hands you can easily still be losing money at poker even if your true winrate is 3bb/100. You can be a pro, just as good at the ones making poker training content, but you can be losing money at poker for many years because of variance. So maybe online poker is not really possible, it's just a scam and dream or a gamble because even if it's a skill game, the variance can still make you a loser after years of playing. So then what about live poker. Well, it's difficult to know what is an achievable winrate at live poker because you play soooo few hands at live poker so no one will ever really know what their winrate is. You can play 10 years and still not enough to know if you are a winner or loser. I mean you could be a losing player but still winning money because of variance. But pros such as Galfond and Doug Polk say that a live poker winrate could be 5b/100. Or maybe they said 5bb/hour, i can't remember. But this means that you will struggle at making a living from live poker at 2/5. Remember also that you must give tips to dealers. Not many places in the world that have 2/5 tables going regularly or at all. You almost have to be from vegas/usa to be possible to be a live poker pro. You really need to play at least at 5/10 for the income to be enough.
