A gang of Italian con men has been arrested on the French Riviera for a scam using invisible ink and infra-red glasses. Two casino employees, one a dealer, also were involved in the plot and arrested.

The gang allegedly netted more than 60,000 euros (£52,000) during poker games by secretly marking decks of cards with the invisible ink which they were then able to read with the customised glasses.

While I have yet to read the article, and that sounds like a nasty scam, your title is very off base here, since online poker is not rigged. If you want to talk about whether or not you agree with me, you already know which thread is appropriate.-

FWIW, this is one of the things Daniel Negreanu was specifically talking about during his "sunglasses can be used for cheating" rant that was discussed some time back...

I did not say it was rigged, ala many who love to post about it. I made a distinction by saying "can be rigged". And if you do not think it has the possibility of being rigged and has not been rigged in the past, please review UltimateBet and AbsolutePoker. It was more just a title to compare than making a blanket statement about online poker per se.

Running into cheats goes with the game. Just like athletes using steroids, some people will look for a way to gain advantage. My advice, just play your best, enjoy it, and accept that some of your opponents might be cheating.

missed this b4 somehow.....

Its all been said b4 as well, but what you are talking about is out and out cheating. The concept that online poker is rigged is a whole other story.

But I am not trying to attack you on this. I get what you are saying.

Yep. There are other substances available in your kitchen, alomg with a spray available to anyone which accomplishes this as well.

Please don't merge. Cull the crap out yes, but it's a hijacking because the thread is poorly titled. That's fixable.

The subject here is doctoring sunglasses.

As a mainly live player, I would like to explore this further.

The only merging to be done is in the quoted mail, from a guy who calls himself "riggedstars"..

definitely merge worthy.....

But, yea, would be interesting to continue this thread since it was a real situation. Is a dodgy title, but OP explained what he meant later.

Just wondering if any casinos prohibit sunglasses while playing.

Seems like a no brainer if it's this easy to mark cards.

Never really thought about that much . Just that sunglasses have always been a part of the game to an extent of concealing your eyes,

I had missed what a monster this thread had become just because I used the word rigged in my title; then caught one of the nutcases - quite a hijack :)

I blame fletchdad

While it's possible that such card rooms exist, I don't think I've ever actaully heard of one.

I'm thinking (in casinos at least) it should be pretty feasible to protect against this kind of thing without a no-sunglasses rule, because it shouldn't be hard to get security cameras fitted with lenses the ink the same way the special sunglasses do. I don't know if casinos actually do this, but it'd certainly be technologically feasible.

With home games it'd be a completely different matter...

I think you are right about casinos needed to use cameras with special filters to catch this problem.

Banning sun glasses wouldn't necessarily fix the problem. The filters sometimes do not require a tint. So you would have to ban all kinds of glasses.

So by "most" you mean the one room which you have mentioned here?

And by "rigged" you mean "they are not legit cause they dont pay"?

And maybe post your correspondence about your withdrawal in an appropriate thread if you are having trouble getting a withdrawal, cause it is often another issue which can perhaps be resolved.
