Online..more hands per hour than live. plusa ability to multi-table make it faster to learn.

if your learning the game you sure as hell should not be multi-tabeling.

I do see your point about more hands but the fact remains the same its the same game and there are points to live play the trump online the same as there are points in online that trump live. Same game.

On-line you can play for $.01/.02 or $.05/.10

Live the lowest you are likely to find is $1.00/$2.00 or $1.00/$3.00

I'd say it's probably cheaper and more convenient to learn online... but other than that, it's like everybody's said: it's the same game

humm, yes the name of the game may be the same, but they are definitely not the same game. If you want to play exclusively on line then, on line training will suffice. But if you are only playing on-line, don't expect to walk in and sit down at a live game and have the same results that you have in the virtual world.

In a live game you have to actually sit in the presence of these people, and you don't have the option to turn off the chat. Sure you can stick on some headphones and sunglasses but you are still going to smell them and see them jumping around. It is a lot easier to be a rock in the virtual world than it is in the real world. You have to be able to count chips, not just read the number that is posted for each player and the pot. You have to handle the cards and the chips. You blinds don't auto post in a live game And there is no beep to tell you it's your turn.

When I play on line the adrenaline barely gets moving unless I win a monster pot or get a reallllly bad beat, but taking down a monster pot live jumps out the adrenaline like crazy.

So it depends on what you want. If you want to play games around a poker table and not just on your computer? Get the basics down and practice your heart out on-line but you gotta get some real table time if you want to win in that arena.

It takes more guts to play live!

good post but live poker I think is 100x easier then online. My opinion from tons of experience in both.

I would agree live poker is much easier then online. I think the main problem with online poker is that its harder to stay focused with all the distractions at home. In addition online poker tends to bring out your faults in the game more.

I'll have to keep your thoughts of live being easier than on-line the next time I sit down at a table. I've only played aprox 40 live games, as opposed to 1000s of on line, so it is not as mechanical for me. It would be great if I get to the point where I think live is easier than virtual

)

Wondering, however, if on-line is harder because of all the statistical data that others can have on you.

its not about live play or on line play....its about wheather your chips are play chips or didu fork out da cash for them.....play for real money like a cash game and not even big slick looks so great for a real 1oo dollar raise.....

Lad don't want to be begging or anything like that.but if any of ye knows the 5 digits code for holdem genius could ye post it.I'm looking for it everywhere on the web but no results.The thing is i don't wanna sign up for the supported poker sites 'cos i don't play 'em,i play just ladbrokes.

ummm ok, lol I was talking about real money. I dont think I have even really played for play chips online ever. Maybe for like a week to mess around but after that it was always real money. AK does look pretty good to the 100 dollar raise when board is AAKT2.

I have played many many many hours of live play, one sitting I sat for about 32 hours straight. Likewise I have sat about the same amount online straight. Let me tell you my live sitting was soooo much easier, the players are worse, their tells are obvious. The game I have more time to think and damn can I intimidate people sooo much easier live. Ever sit there and just stare at someone right before you make a bet? its funny to see how scared they get when you push $500 into the middle.

Yes it is the same game. The difference is in how you beat the game. The online game is more technical and the live game is more instinctive and intuitive.

For learning the basics and the math (something that is given more attention that it is worth in my opinion) online is the way to go by far.

Playing on line will allow you to see a lot of hands and present you with the chance to make a lot of situational tactical choices.

Live, as has been said is all about the reads and tells. If you are good at reading players then the live game is way easier.
