It would have to be a class action lawsuit for any of the money to get to the players, him saying hes doing it for the players is wrong.

I don't think he actually has to get the $150M. Depending on the merits of the case, it could always be used as leverage to get FTP to behave properly. I guess we'll see as this thing plays out.

So with all this talk about boycotts and whatnot, how about this one:

Move the WSOP outside of the US!

OK, so once again the federal government could care less, but it would serve them right. Maybe it would inspire legislators in the state of Nevada to enact some new legislation exempting poker from these "game of chance" laws. The state receives a lot of tourist dollars for that event every year.

As usual, if you want something done, follow the money.

My thoughts about Phil Ivey’s Statement + FTP’s non-payment

I’m in the midst of wsop madness so this going to be brief and full of spelling/grammar mistakes:
I normally hesitant to gossip or make comments about other poker players and companies as I try to avoid causing drama or creating drama at all costs. But due to the fact that I have a large sum of money on Full Tilt and the fact that I have much more information about this matter than the general public I feel obligated to comment.
Phil Ivey’s statement was solely self-serving. He is trying to cover his own ass and unassociate himself with full-tilt’s current legal situation/non-paying of players. Phil Ivey is one of the primary equity holders of full tilt and has profited off their business more than almost anyone. If he really cared about the players he would pledge to return every cent of the MILLIONS of dollars he’s made from Full Tilt to the players as Tom Dwan (who is not a owner) has done.
Instead he made a public statement that dramatically hurt Full Tilt’s reputation and brand at a critical moment. Full Tilt has been searching for a bridge-loan/investment to cover all player funds and Phil Ivey’s statement has hurt their chances to do so. It is a lot harder to sale an investment in a poker site who’s most marketable player is making damning public statements against them.
Phil Ivey used this statement all to save his own ass and his own money. He has hurt the US players chances of being paid in a timely fashion under, the guise of helping them.
As Phil is one of my personal heroes I have to say I’m shocked by his actions.
There has been a lot of speculation on why Full Tilt hasn’t paid. The information I have suggests Full Tilt didn’t have their funds fully segregated as Pokerstars did so while the DOJ unfroze a large % of pokerstars assets as pokerstars could say these are player funds and we need them to pay the players – Full Tilt was unable to do so, as a result a much bigger % of Full Tilt’s assets remain frozen. On top of that they have many more owners who they paid out very aggressively (*cough* Phil Ivey *cough*), so they had much less of a cushion in case like something like this happened. In spite of all of this and Phil Ivey’s damaging statement I remain optimistic US players will be paid out.
Disclaimer: Most of the my statement is coming form limited information/sources and I could be wrong – and Phil Ivey could be in the right. But I believe strongly enough in what I’m saying to make a public statement.
Edit: I do not think that Phil Ivey did anything shady. I also believe he is correct/in the right in most of the statements he made. However, I do think what he did hurts the chances of US players being paid – which is bad for me and most of his fans.

long time I said Phil Ivey is an arrogant asshole. he has been hiding it pretty well, but it is time for him to show who he really is.

What 'game of chance' laws does Nevada have ???
You can bet on just about anything and everything in Nevada ... except a lottery ...

Nevada legislators (at least at the critical Federal level) have been far more in favor of online gaming than not in favor of it. Reid and Heller have been positve about online poker and wasn't it Nevada based gaming institutions that were moments away from penning agreements to partner up with online poker operators until Black Friday when even THEY were blindsided ??

Dean Heller is the recently appointed Senator to replace Ensign after he resigned, but when Heller was the Northern Nevada Representative to the House he always supported online poker. I have his written letters and e-mail correspondence confirming his approval stance to online gaming. He voted favorably in several House committees to undo UIGEA but those proposals never made it past committee level.

Point is ... Nevada legislators have done as much as any other politicians in the US who have tried to support online gaming. However ... Nevada alone does not make Federal law.

Of course he has the right to be arrogant in all honestly.

He is quite frankly, without a doubt the best poker player in the world and every single game of poker at that. Not just the standard hold'em and so on..

Worth well over $100million, I'm sure you need some arrogance considering where he used to be at, I'd be the same!

Just one thought, the $150 million plus figure Ivey is seeking in damages will almost certainly be nothing more than an opening negotiation point. I don't think it means he actually expects to receive that much in damages.

How has a class action against FT not been filed yet. I am sure that's on the horizon. FT is done. Ivey will probably come out of this a huge goat that will be shunned anyhwere he goes. It'll be tough for that egomaniac to deal with for sure.

I suspect it's because it's way too soon for that. Seriously, we're talking about six weeks here and the site are making all the right noises about trying to get players paid. I don't think any judge is going to take such a case seriously after this short a period of time. Besides, poker players are notoriously disorganised when it comes to this stuff - people only started talking seriously earlier this year about bringing a class action over the UB cheating scandal and that was eyars ago.

Note that the Ivey lawsuit, whether or not you think it's frivolous, is very different in nature to the complaint a class action would address.

IANAL BTW so this is all just my observation / opinion.

Interesting little tidbit that got missed last night from Barry Greenstein's Twitter account:

"Phil called me and screamed into the phone for 5 minutes, so I can't really say I talked to him about the post."

No I think what speaks volumes is this guy is smart for not playing in the WSOP, I cant say for sure but I but there are some pissed off American players out there out of a lot of money, now being from Oakland,CA, one the murder capitals in the US, I can say I bet he would be in fear for his life, I would not put it pass someone who has tens of thousands of dollars locked up on full tilt, to grab a gun and blow his head off during a live poker event, all they have to do is wait till he leaves or goes to his room, bathroom break, etc etc. Happens all the time out here in Oakland,CA. God damn right listen i've calmed down in my older years put 10-15 years ago i would have beat down all the f***ing online FTP pros i seen at the WSOP.I know now in my days it ant there fault but still they should be scared shitless.

I understand that, and good for them. I was thinking that if the state could show actual losses due to this recent DOJ action, Nevada federal congressional members might have a better go of either exempting poker in the UIGEA or eliminating it altogether. Conventions are big business in Nevada -- mess with a massive multi-day event and their federal representatives are more likely to call in some favors to get something done in order to protect their constituents.

Just a thought.

Why do you think Peter Eastgate quit poker? At this level, personal reputation and integrity is something that one cannot afford to have compromised. Full Tilt's name has become associated with money laundering and theft, and Mr. Ivey wants nothing to do with it. I applaud Ivey for his brave actions.

Even tho him doing this, and could cost everyone's Else's money.
This is only for his self, i don't think it's about anyone else IMO, now that the other pros are jumping on him now, they don't like what he did.
1 the DOJ has our money, as well as the same on UB/AP, but UB got the account's unfrozen, FT is working on doing the same.
2 i don't worship Phil, I like other pros/players but Phil is not one of them.
3 he has a contract with FT, filing a lawsuit puts him on the line, thus FT could turn around and sue him for every dollar he has.

I don't see him coming out from hiding for a very longtime.

If we can't get our money back, becoz of this i say we file a class action lawsuit on Phil, thought we would win it.

I think this will be my last post in this thread.

The guy is FT. He's one of the top 4 or 5 owners of FT. He's just trying to cover his ass and get out of being sued. He owes everyone money.
