PKRPLR 4116's Poker Adventures

WHAT?!?!? I'm writing about these here? Yup! You know why? I'm starting to cash in tourneys, FINALLY! At my first WPT BootCamp in Biloxi last year, Clownie Gowan warned me that if I couldn't do well in cash games, I would never become a winning tournament player. But, I was scared to pay live. Not intimidated by others, but I was afraid to lose my money. I felt by buying in to a tournament, I already knew how much I could lose and it was almost always a fixed amount (except for rebuy events). But, when I got here to Vegas, I could NEVER cash in a tounrey. I got so annoyed, I began to think about Clonie's advice and Bruce gently got me to play $2-$4 limit. I lost for a while...but then I began to break even and then began to win consistently.
When we were in Carson Valley, I came in 2nd is a Ladies Event with only 18 entrants. When we got back I bought into the Suncoast's $45 tourneys and the 1st one we chopped (I was the shortest stack) but I cashed. Last night at Suncoast, I came in 2nd (we chopped). And, tonight I won a SnG at the Palms. Finally made my breakthrough. If I can do, so can you! Follow Clonie's advice; she was right! I believe the discipline and patience I learn from limit has made me a better tournament player (I hope).

Congrats, and hopefully you win many more...my problem is, I am good at SNGs and MTTs but am horrible at cash(online), live cash I'm actually decent cuz of all the ppl I play have no clue lol....anyways I think that Clonie's advice is good, but what about ppl like me that are horrible at cash?

thats awesome that you went to the boot camp......and by the sounds of what you're telling us I think there will be lots of final table appearances by you in the future.

Thanks for yours and Scooter's kind words! KC, I'm trading computer lessons (I'm giving those) to Roy West for low limit and medium limit poker lessons. Once I spend more time teaching him than his 1 day teaching regamin, we will the go to him accompanying me to the $4-8 table and monitoring my play. We'll trade off by the hour. When he did this, at first, to determine my baseline of play, he gave me a hint in the form of a reference to a TV program. Whenever I wonder if I'm in a hand too long, I bring up his hint.
He brought up the old Johnny Carson show. Many of you are too young to remember Johnny Carson, but he had a skit on the program with an Indian tribe that always got lost. Their tribe's name was the ****owai. As in "Where the Fu-k Are We"? If I have not hit my hole cards post flop, GET OUT! Particularly if I was the caller, not the aggressor. Thus, when my cards don't hit on the flop, I always ask myself wherethe ****owkai? Laugh to myself and fold. Works ever time. I hope this helps! Then, of course are his catch phrases: Patience and discipline. Always play ABC poker, not ATC poker

I'm soooooo jealous about your coaching. That's really cool that you're getting pro advice on your game. Sounds like some good stuff to remember.

Deb, it was last Sept in conjunction with the WPT Gulf Coast Classic. there was a cash game camp in Ft. Lauderdale this past weekend. It's 600 miles, I think, from Jax to Miami via RT 95 So. You're about 5 hrs from Savannah...so about 11 hrs, give or take. That camp is over, now, but they have them there occasionally. Atlanta is about 5 hrs from Tallahassee and Tally is about 5 hrs from Biloxi. Similarly, you're about 8 hrs from Tunica. Any of these can be driven to easily in one day. Now that I did all that (sorry, but I used to live in Atlanta and drove there ALOT before moving out to the desert). May I respectfully suggest you go to the WPT site and click on the link to their BootCamps? Also the wsop has Academies, as well. WPT offers them in locals oftentimes within driving distance from Atl. WSOP usually holds theirs in LV. These camps cost a lot of $$. They will return your investment many times over, if you do EVERYTHING you're taught, tho. I was too stubborn for a nearly a year to play the cash games theat ultimately gave me the patience and disciline needed to start winning tournaments.
