I think that zoom is very good for practice and increasing skill games against known opponents.

You'll gain the most skills and experience by playing multiple formats imo.
I went from concentrating on stts; to sngs, 18 man, 45 man, 180 man, to mtts, to 9max cash, 6 max cash, HU cash, HU sngs, then zoom, then stts again, then back to 6max/HU cash which became my bread and butter game.

I think it's good to improve the skills of poker in Sit and go, with buy-in from 0.10 - 0.50 cents and players 45 - 360, this is an excellent game for games and honing your skills

stick to free ring games (the free equivalent of cash games).
Tournaments are not going to teach you anything other than pacing risk (which is obsolete in cash games as you should play identical to how you play in the early stages of a tournament in a cash game).
In the end, if you want consistent win rates that are your fault cash games are superior to tournaments and zoom poker is a question of your speed of thinking. If you are actually very fast at thinking, go for them because your speed isn't rewarded as highly on slower tables, if you think slower then avoid zoom tables are you are unnecessarily inhibiting yourself the ability to prosper.
The question you ask is based on one's natural personality. Fast thinkers who are good at math should stick to zoom, more psychological and deep thinkers will definitely do better in the average speed tables.

I recommend any type of sit & go, although the zooms are not bad either, I still think the best thing you can do is play the 9 player sit & go, there you will polish your skills well
