I really like listening to music while playing poker, even though it can prevent you from concentrating sometimes when you listen for too long. To minimize the distraction I like to choose songs that I have already listened to many times. That way I only "have to" listen when it is convenient for me, like when I folded a hand or when a tourney is on break.
Genre-wise my preference would go into the hip-hop or pop direction, in the later hours of the night deep-house, pop or R&B work fine for me.

In a long tournament it can work miracles if you can take the edge off the stress by listening to a track you enjoy. Even if it is just for a few seconds, it lowers your adrenaline level and lets you cool down a little bit. Can probably help you maintain your focus in the long run, which is supposed to be crucial for success in poker - at least from what I've heard.

I don't like to listen to music when playing live games, I prefer to get involved in a conversation with other players in between hands, but at one Casino I was playing against a player who had earphones on connected to a tablet, when I asked him what music he was listening to, he showed me a poker game he was playing and said "It's not music, I am playing on-line".
I immediately thought Boy this guy has a problem.

Yes, everyone can play doing whatever they want as long as they don't bother the rival. A couple of years ago I was convinced that when I listened to the Gabriel and Dresden album Remedy it brought me luck hahaha. I can only believe in myself and in my game

it's depend, when it is boring and monotonous I listen to music of any kind, when I play the late phase of the tournament I prefer to concentrate on the game without music

Wel, it depends on my mood. Sometimes when playing Sit and Go I like to listen to music. But if I reach the final table of a MTT I prefer the silence because I need to concentrate more on the game
