Often one of the first things they do is try to reel you in with a "free training seminar or session" which is nothing more than a pie-in-the-sky sales pitch. When you buy the basic coaching package, you find out that it consists almost entirely of upselling and is loaded with "secrets that you can't unlock" unless you buy the more expensive package which is also loaded with upselling and the scam continues.

Stock and options trading is absolutely infested with this garbage and so is real estate investing - if somebody really developed an algorithm or software package that would produce returns of 20-40% per year regardless of markets moving up or down, they wouldn't be selling it for $495. They would literally kill to keep it a secret. It's also a common psychological trick to massively overcharge for something because "if it's that expensive then it must actually be worth it."

If you want to become really, really good at something, poker included, it takes years of dedicated study and effort and there are NO shortcuts.
