It's not a sport. That much is for sure. As for a game of skill or luck, it's both. If you are unlucky, no amount of skill will save you.

in poker, of course, the most important thing is to prudently think about your moves and count outs, but also you shouldn't forget about the chance for luck !!!! He also plays some role in poker, but the main thing of course is to forgive everything and you will have more chances to win !!!

The skillful poker player, in the long run, overcomes luck - or least reduces and flattens variance. In the short term, we are all in the hands of the poker gods.

So the answer is yes to: Is poker a game of skill or chance? It is both, but for the serious poker player the idea is to learn to play poker as optimally as possible. Learning is itself a skill, but a bigger skill is applying what you learn in the heat of battle. Every decision has an element of chance due to incomplete information but the best players seek every profit opportunity by grinding out marginal edges on a continual basis.

We all like the big win but its the small edges we achieve over our competitors that allow one to build a bankroll. Poker isn't just for Christmas but for life.

Luck has more importance. You can play like Negreanu or Ivey, and you will lose to fish, even if you have played CORRECTLY. Probability theory doesn`t work as we thought, the distance can never pay off our loses.

Poker has both elements of skill and luck. A good player must be able to spot tells, calculate odds and control their emotions at the table to play well and loose graciously. The mere fact that so many of the same faces are winning and going deep in tournaments is testament that they have the skill required to do so despite the element of luck in the game. The luck and unpredictability of the game has gone a long way in making it a spectator sport but the decisions made by the players and the timing of it all is more crucial to the outcome of the game. Not to mention the discipline to make big lay downs - that speaks volumes!

If you give the different players to play the same cards in identical positions and compare the results, I firmly believe they will be different at every table. Every single player will most likely play the hands differently based on their knowledge of the game and the skill they possess.

Hey, duplicate poker does not sound like such a bad idea

A heads up team sport or duplicate multi-table competitions. Compare skills and see the difference in results, play and timing!

Seriously, in poker, despite good cards, you must be able to keep cool. The one who has a weak psyche or is very susceptible to emotion, rather will not win too much. As in the case of blackjack, the layout of the cards is repeated and playing for some time, you can notice it (just like playing in a casino for a long time on one slot). Sometimes you have to bluff and sometimes go in thick.

I see it like that, some have this card slip, others to slots, and some others to place matches.

Agree, the faster the blinds increase, the stronger the variance. It is much easier for a good player to start in tournaments with a deep stack and a smooth increase in the blinds than in turbo tournaments, where the blinds grow every 5 minutes and you have to play with the hands that pass. I think there is a direct correlation to the speed of the tournament and the percentage of luck.

Luck is involved - but skill is required to know exactly *when* to make moves.

I wouldn’t call it gambling if you are playing tournaments; however, since the chips at that point have no intrinsic value.

I applied about 40 different ideas to win a tourney yesterday that had nothing to do with luck. Yes, I bluffed a few hands which is luck if you win, but did not win the tournament by luck only.

Btw: you cannot win a tournament without some luck, no matter how good you are. But I did not win because of only luck, again it goes into the idea 80% skill 20% luck.

Really i think Its a game of Discipline and Patients. The discipline to keep to bankroll management and Patients to not go broke when bad beats and coolers are the sessions theme.
