Sure, poker is a sport. It is also a game, gambling or casino or parlor event. It can be anything you want. Olympic event, wont hold my breath for that one though.

Poker is an activity & for some a profession, it is not a sport, you will see nonsense like synchronized swimming & golf in the Olympics before, oh wait, damn. Let me get back to you on this.

poker is a sport

Of course it is a sport. for which you need 1st Skill 2nd strategy 3rd luck. For example, a football match. You can have the best team, a good strategy, and a lot of skill in the players, but if you don't have any luck. you lose because the other team may be less skilled but have a better strategy and a little more luck. and you can also live poker as a sport if you do it right. good luck

It's an activity. I love poker, but really? You could pull a muscle reaching for your beer, I suppose. Why diminish the Olympics with this? Poker gets plenty of opportunity to be in the spotlight.

Exactly it's an activity I've been playing poker for over 50 years and I'm still not an athlete.

I don't really consider poker to be a sport, just as I question chess being considered a sport as well. You will never, and I mean never, see poker as an Olympic sport, just as you will never see chess as an Olympic sport.

Never thought of poker as a sport, but that would be cool. Having players compete for country's. having a qualifying tournament to play to see who represents for your country's would be cool. Not going to happen but you never know.

Sport definition is something like that: "an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment."

I have a doubt about the physical exertion part of playing poker. Yeah you are sit at a table for a long time maybe but that's it. It's really a game.

poker is not a sport, it is a gambling in which a lot depends on luck.

I think that poker is unlikely to become an Olympic sport. Poker is more gambling than sports. But in general, poker is an intellectual game.

I beg to differ. Yes, luck plays a factor, but there is a lot of strategy involved. There is a strong psychological component, and complex math done on the fly (in our subconscious... in the same part of your brain that tells you whether you can make a left turn with a car barrelling down in the opposite direction) that works to always try to tilt the odds in your favour when you play.

Not for me.
Poker is a game of chance, where the player's ability plays a key role in the entire development of the game.
On the other hand, sport is a physical activity, which requires important physical training and wear.
Therefore, for me, chess should not be considered a sport, since it is a mental skill game, like poker. But the athletic component does not have the same weight as in a sport.
Greetings.

poker is a sport for the big conglomerates that run like poker rooms. For them who see billions enter the account in the form of sport is a very enjoyable sport kkk

Yes, of course poker is a sport, with the right training you too can have an athletic body like the 2004 wsop Champion.

Undoubtedly, poker is a sport like chess. I live in Ukraine and we have recognized poker as an official sport. I also think that in the future, poker will be an Olympic sport.

Currently, poker is one of the most popular sports in the world.
But how Olympic discipline is unlikely:)
