Poker is a sport that involves chance.

Sport is a competition that involves skills that can be used in combat.

Poker is not physical? Player needs to be well physically and mentally - needs to be rested and hydrated - needs to be able to sit for extended periods of time (not unlike Luge....need to be in one basic position).

it is definitely a sport you need concentration, physical preparation and skill all the components of an athlete therefore it is a sport and as in any sport the luck factor influences but that does not imply that it is not a sport

Any game where the prize is money is gambling. but if you are ready to receive a medal and commendable paper for victory, and not money, then this is a sport.

It's like a combination of chess and roulette. Some hands you have to think and strategize how you play them. Other hands JJ and AK all in preflop, well statistically it's like betting on red or black, you have a 50-50% chance of winning.

My personal opinion is that I think that poker is a gamble, but many believe that poker is a sport and now in Ukraine people and the administration have signed contracts and poker is now an official sport, but now let gamblers play sports!

I believe poker is a game of skill and luck. I also believe it can be classed as a sport especially the WSOP due to the length of time the tournament takes.

pretty sure a sport has to involve some kind of physical activity..
poker is a game of chance. strategy, knowledge, odds, and luck improve your chances, but it's still a game of chance.

I guess to some extend poker has characteristics of a sport, however in my opinion is not a sport as it does not include the physical aspect. It is a "game" like chess.

The contestants mental ability is far more important than their physical ability. In fact physical ability would be reasonably far down the rank of required skills in a game like poker. (Physical conditions can still give you an advantage over opponents in poker, however they would be more important in longer forms of the game like multi-day tournaments)

At the end of the day it comes down to your personal definition of sport. If you consider the above definition, the only word that doesn't make poker a sport is "physical".

What makes something a sport? By definition it isn't a sport. I would say poker is a game so I guess I would have to pick game of chance since those are the options.

Oxford Dictionary defines sport as "an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or a team competes against another or others for entertainment"

Not much physical exertion in poker unfortunately. I would love it if I could get physically fit from just playing poker.

both, it is like sportbook, you have fav like -300 vs +250 kind of like poker You have AA/AK/KK/QQ for preflop. That is all. You will prob win but who knows? =-D

Neither, it is an activity with an element of skill and chance. Having played many sports, this ain't one.

Poker has every reason to be considered an intellectual sport like chess. In poker, there is no exercise, but no one argues that billiards, golf, darts are not sports.People who do not know well about poker, it seems that he belongs to gambling.
