Does anyone here feel poker helps them with their chronic pain? I do.

There is so much to focus on during a tournament, that it actually displaces my focus on the pain, therefore helping me cope with it.

It can.

Also any video game (or any activity) that requires some attention.

It can distract your brain from "feeling" light to medium pain.

To be clear - the pain signals still arrive at the brain - but the brain is prioritizing something else.

If you're playing for money then take care that the pain is not trying to displace your "poker logic".

But if you're playing for play chips then you can make big mistakes at no economic cost.

I hope you feel better soon !

I’ve found that concentration on something, specifically thru meditation, can take my mind off very minor pain, but nothing more substantial.

Since tournament play doesn’t require constant attention (like meditation does) I can’t see that working for me.

… maybe that’s why I’m not any good at tournaments. :)

I hear things like that from a Dr.
Focus, or something bring your attention, have the power to leave (at last some momment) your pain, be her mental or physical.

You need to find what can help you to escape from the pain, if you find this in poker, is such nice... some people find this on drugs or another bad things

Poker is a good therapy, but if you're winning.

Absolutely. Add the “winning” caveat and I’d agree that poker is the panacea for treating emotional issues, especially depression. But, physical pain, not so much.

Poker for money can briefly distract from various problems, because it is excitement. But with conditional chips I think it will not work))

My L4/5 is flat as a pancake and the disks in my thoracic vertebrae are not much to look at either.

Sitting is way better for me that standing but trying to play hours long tournament is pretty impossible. The dopamine rush can only last so long...
