It would be very interesting and I think that a game like poker deserves to be an Olympic sport.

As a person who had hoped to be in the Olympics one day I would love to play poker in the games. The problem is no mater how we look at this Poker is a mind sport in my opinion. While attempting to represent my country in the Olympics will never happen and I still would love to, I dont think poker should qualify as a sport.

In order for poker to participate in the Olympic Games, it must be legalized in many countries. Poker is a game of chance and is therefore prohibited in some countries. It will never be able to become an Olympic sport.

Of course it will be interesting to see. But you also need to understand that this will not happen in the near future. But it is possible if the representatives of the largest poker sites do something to make tournament poker more spectacular.

I had never really thought about it! It would be very entertaining, what a great idea! but since it is betting and money they will not see it well, even if they do bets on sports.

Sorry I love poker but no way should this be even considered to be an Olympic event. Sure there is some skill involved but there’s too much luck involved to be able to fairly award medals. Just think about all the training real athletes do to even have a chance to get to their countries qualification process to make the Olympics. I hope this post was done in jest.

Even though I think it would be very interesting to have poker at the Olympics, I don't think that will ever happen. There is no mind sport like poker at the olympics and none of the others sports 1 match take the time that poker takes.

I love poker and think that skills are much more important than anything else to be a winner player in the long run, but I still don't think poker qaulify as a sport compared to the other olympics sports.

It would be great for poker as it is a game of mental skill, but since it depends a bit on luck (variance) it may take time for you to enter the Olympics one day, hopefully those who are in charge of this to make it possible. study the game and understand that poker requires a lot of study and practice to become a winner in the medium or long term and that in some universities in the world they give poker as a subject of study for the statistics and mathematical probabilities and the calculated risk that is analyzed and applied to poker.

These days Olympics games are about competition so it's normal to have poker in the Olympic games maybe each country could send 5 to 10 players to few events.

There was a recent thread in the news section which turned to this subject and a heated discussion followed.

In both cases the idea was raised by a Brazilian poster because (I believe) the matter is being discussed in Brazil. High profile sportsmen such as Neymar who play poker were asked the question and they were enthusiastic about the idea. First, I think poker is enjoying a high profile in Brazil not matched in other countries...and the country just hosted the Olympics recently...so the view is a little naive and perhaps Brazil-centric.

As others have pointed out, its is a mind game. Secondly many countries do not allow poker or gambling so it is hardly a global sport. But, more importantly as I pointed out in the other thread the Olympic Committee already looked closely at a card game which would have made a better fit with the Olympics - Bridge.

Whilst world class Bridge players can make a lot of money it is not regarded as a 'gambling' game as such but more a strategy game. Players compete in teams of two and there are long established world championship tournaments, It would seem to be a good potential fit for the Olympics. But the IOC rejected Bridge.

As I said before, if the Olympics already rejected Bridge I doubt they are going to seriously consider Poker as an Olympic 'sport' any time soon.

I think luck plays too large of a role in poker to qualify as an Olympic sport. I agree, I'd love to see some sort of international competition where players could represent their countries, but I highly doubt to ever see poker in the Olympics during my lifetime.

I believe that poker is a sport and I think one day poker will still be recognized as an Olympic sport. But alas, it does not depend on us at the moment.

I don't regard poker as a sport and doubt it will ever be included in the Olympics.

But Break Dancing has been included in the 2024 Paris Olympics, so there must a remote chance for poker. I wonder if they would include Stud Hi/Lo and Razz. I would then stand a chance of qualifying to represent my country.
