This is one of the silliest things I have heard in a long time.

i never played live poker before until i played online. online poker has helped my game out a lot not about ready players but ready and playing my own cards. so i played my 1st live tourn in Detroit at Greektown casino it was $65 buyin #3000 chips to start and only 100 people entered i took 2nd in the tourn and won a nice amount of cash. so to say that online poker does not help is crazy maybe its you and not the online or ? ever it is i hope your luck changes

Yes, live poker and online poker are different. Therefore, you have to approach the game a little differently. Although there are principles that are obviously common to both online and live play (odds, position, bet sizing [although the amounts may differ live v. online], etc).

But I'm confused by your post, because:

1. It doesn't really have anything to do with the title
2. I'm not sure if you are saying you are a losing player online or live
3. Is this just a vent, or are you asking for help?

If you want to improve your game, it can be done. Just ask any number of members here. But, it will take a lot of commitment and drive from you. Are you ready to study your game, do your homework and find the leaks? If you are, you couldn't be in a better spot than here. Cardschat has a lot of resources to help you:

This implies that all players are equal in skill level online. Ivey's waiting if you've got 50k on Full Tilt.

But in all seriousness I've put more money in online than live too and I've taken MUCH more out as well. I've also played over half a million hands. So take my advice this OP is completely false. I'm much better now after 500k+ than I was hand 1.

This is wrong on so many levels. First of all, in your opinion how do you become a better poker player? For me I think I improve the most by playing lots of hands and then analyzing them afterwards. Of course learning basic poker theory from books or whatever is also important. In online play you are able to play so many more hands per hour, due to multitabling, than live. Online also allows you to analyze your hands better with the help of software like PT3 and HEM. So, imo, I think it's much easier to become a better poker player online than live.

I really don't understand your question. I wish you would have given examples of what you are trying to say. Playing live or on-line will improve your skill playing the other type of poker.

Cannot speak to live versus online, personally, as I'm a relative newcomer to this type competition. However, all of the "big winners," when interviewed, have stated that they wish that they had access to internet games when they first started. They make a particular point that that there is value in being able to experience so many more games online. They point out that the younger generation of players are far more advanced in their skill set of play. And, many of "them" do indeed participate online.

It's even stated by the old pro who had their experience on the live tables which took them years to play at the level that these young-bies play in a co; uple of months.... The secret is the tremendous amounts of hands that can be played on-line opposite to live with all the 'thinking time'.

So yes you can improve your play much quicker on-line but remember (as already stated) live play <> on-line play. The pitfall is that these internet players have easy to read tells. That is a big dis-advantage however they are terrific players. Live play = 30% poker and 70% tells; don't hang me for this as I thought I read it somewhere but can't find it right now....

By the way a must read is the read-em and reap-em book of our famous Phil and the FBI inspector... At least when you're planning to play live-poker.
