Poker Books!!

Ive read a few books from the pros..including Hellmuth's and Doyle's and a few others, but i have not found a good mathematics book to read. Does anyone know of a book w/ some percentages and odds??? ive been looking around but havent seen too many that catch my eye....

Read --- The Mathematics of Poker by Bill Chen and Jerrod Ankenman --

It is a fairly dry(boring) read but if you understand the math it will help your game. The math can be tough if you aren't very good with numbers but it shouldn't be too hard for someone who did ok in High School Algebra.

a book i read recently called

A winners Guide To Texas Holdem Poker
by Ken Warren

That give you you unbeatable guide to all 169 starting hands
flop % etc

I would also recommend having a basic Statistics book handy. Having the basic formulas of Permutations and Combinations is probably a good thing.

I just got these books not to long ago and only just started to read them but they seem great so far.

1. Texas Hold'em Odds and Probabilities
2. Practical Poker Math

Please do NOT buy this book. It is a waste of money unless you have an advanced math degree. Even then it is probably not worth it in practical (poker) terms. Here is an example of what you have to look forward to if you get MoP:

LOL....me too,bad thing is I will be starting college Algebra this semester which starts Monday

I kept retaking algebra in high school so I had to take it in college. I had a teacher who was really excited about it, which helped. I actually had a B near the end, before I started slacking off.

I remember looking at the unassigned practice questions in the book a day before the final exam, seeing an interesting question about the number of possible license plates. I memorized the answer because I thought it was interesting.
The next day that question was on the final. Bingo!

I dont think any one could of said it better.

math is a important tool in poker but seriously when are u going to use those formulas at the table?
maby the have some value when your reviewing HH and stuff but just reading that one page tilted me....

I always wonder if the pro players use math maybe some about counting outs but i dont think they use the math Aliengenius showed is. If poker was math there would be a software program that would beat every player.

Yeah, I got Texas Hold'em Odds and Probabilities as a gift. What I've gotten into is pretty good. It also has CD-ROM software with it.

I don't know what the CD-ROM does, but I do know it has a poker calculator on it.

I think you can get information on the book(s) by the author; whom, also wrote a book strictly on internet gaming.

You don't really have to know math to succeed at poker. You just need to know how to deductively think and apply basic math concepts.

I think being able to read your oponent is the most important thing; although, that is a little harder to do online. However, if you're in a donk tournament, it is easier to adjust your play.

Of course, this is my opinion.

As someone who has an undergrad degree in mathematics and a masters in what is effectively applied statistics, I lol'd at this.

That book is awesome btw.

(but I wouldn't recommend it to hardly anyone on this forum either)

don't know if anyones mentioned it but killer poker by the numbers by tony guerrera (foreword by John Vorhauss) is a very good book, really hurt my head at times but helped me get to understand expectational value which is rather important, really easy to read i thought as well, not like your average pure maths textbook lol

hm i dont like poker books u can much easier learn poker just bye a) doing and b) watching , for example a live-coaching.

I defiinitively got mor from it then reading Practical Poker Math
