Harrington on holdem 1 & 2 for tourneys... some of the stuff (M & Q) is useful for Sngs too.

Lee Jones Limit Holdem
Great book for getting a solid base . Players think its just for limit but you can take that to no limit . Lee Gives a starting hand by position and so on . Great book to have on hand .

Very correct. Its a general poker tournament book. Easy read for starters.

Read any poker book and then play reread book. You will find you missed a lot of infromation.

In support of Phil Gordon's little green book. It's broken into very short sections about small aspects of the game and is not too complicated. In the beginning of the book he states that his way may not be the best way to play but it asks the reader to think about his method of playing and see if it works for you or not. I like all of Phil's little book series for the reason that it's all in bite sized chunks.
