Have you ever measured how much you can get away from playing poker? I have done it myself and I have achieved great control of my game and discipline, I can go weeks or even months without playing poker, so we can conclude that poker is not addictive, addiction is more associated with the player's psychological weakness issues than of the game itself.

By the use of this logic, nothing is addictive. :)

I have gone 35 years without smoking cigarettes, so does that mean cigarettes are not addictive? :)

I'm being critical of your language/logic, I know! I'm sorry! ;)

Poker can be addictive, but I'm pretty sure that is more the vice of gambling which can become an addiction.

Anyways, yes...a break can be highly beneficial because it breaks up the routine and forces different thoughts.

Good luck!

I've been taking quite long breaks from playing poker. It is not a problem for me to stop playing even for a few months, I have no problems with addiction. I know a lot of people who have lost a lot of $ playing poker and not only waiting for an extra win, it all depends on the head. Often times, the desire for a quick profit confuses people and they lose their real judgment, succumbing to miscalculation. I like to play and it is healthy to take breaks in the game just to look at my game from a distance.

After I started playing poker, my mind improved a lot, it became stronger in my decisions and attitudes, I can now see life in other aspects.

So far I agree with you; in that Poker is not addictive, but that addiction is a mental weakness of the poker player, but I don't understand that. There are players for whom this is their job, it is their profession and doing it every day does not mean that they are addicted and have a weak mind; that is his job and others play it out of necessity for some monetary benefit, others do it to distract themselves; but it does not mean that it is an addiction or something mentally dangerous that shows a weakness of a person; because in reality, if that is why we eat every day, then we are going to say that we are addicted to food, every day we need a shower, we are going to say that we are addicted to water. So a word misused or poorly contextualized is currently being used to discredit people or make them look like they have a psychic or mental defect.

The addiction to poker is great when we are an amateur player. On the other hand, when our vision of the game changes the addiction is reduced little by little.

In other words, when we understand that it's the good work that pays off in the end, we move away from addiction.

Addiction is something that exists in every situation in life, there are people who are addicted to food or smoke or no matter what you can think of, there is someone who is addicted to it somewhere. The question is whether poker is a game of luck. Because then the probability that there are people who are addicted to poker is also very high because there are many people who are addicted to gambling. But from my point of view, poker is not pure luck and that's why I don't think you get addicted to poker. But still, I can't rule out that there are people who are addicted to poker. And no matter what addiction it is, if you have an addiction, you should seek help and have it treated

Yeah of course Poker is not addictive. If there is no poker than you can always go to the casino or dog track, that works fine too.

Playing poker is the best solution to abandon video games, before poker you spend hours and hours playing video gamers, not knowing what to do.
When I started playing poker, the routine changed, now I spend a few hours at poker when I want to play.
Video gamers don't give any life experience and not even any future, now poker brings us experience and still gives us a future, look at how many successful poker players are. In their case, they spend hours and hours playing poker, invest in great tournaments and even study their own plays and even self-criticize their games.

I don't agree with this. Poker can be an addiction, specially if the person is already suffering from a psychological disorder, like anxiety or depression. Gambling addiction is associated with the release of dopamine, the "feel good" hormone. Of course the majority of players will not develop gambling problems, but a small percentage of players unfortunately will.
