Not in such direct form by family but some people told me that poker is same as gambling and so on. As with everything proof is in the pudding. If you show people that you in fact earn money or at least do not loose too much playing poker and if they see that you can maintain balance with other activities in your life they usually respect your choice even if they do not understand it.

I treat poker as a hobby, so my priority is personal, such as family, work, etc. In my spare time I sit down to play.

If poker is a hobby one or two nights a week is ok and the rest of your time should be put into your family. Playing for money should be at least a couple times a week, Poker and Family should be at an even balance or neither one will work out. And your Family should be your number one choice. I played online poker for years and nobody ever knew about it because it was during the hours when I was awake and others were asleep. I just set aside time that did not interfere with normal social connections.

Of course they knew when I was at the casino or local tournaments. That was scheduled weeks in advance. All above board.
