For me, Poker is management of mind and management of luck through statistics, probability and logic.

LUCK & SKILL

Both but of course the more skilful luckier will actually take advantage of poker is spots
Only you know how to enjoy the good spots with skill so do not believe in luck not skill but skill with no luck yet give results

Lately online at ACR I am seeing a lot of luck involved. Whether it be the nightly CC freeroll or bigger money games. The bigger money players are willing to gamble or rebuy until they have a big stack then they play that stack well. That’s where the skill becomes important. Obviously it takes skill to be successful but luck is a factor. I have seen some crazy things happen. If luck wasn’t involved then getting it in good would be ideal. It’s not always that way though. 60/40 skill is still at 60% but luck or lack there of for ones opponent is 40%.

I think poker is skill when you're playing against skill players. Luck when you're playing with maniacs. We all know the type. They will shove all in with any 2 and somehow miraculously come out with a win. So the short answer "luck" or "skill" is it depends.

poker is lucky, it can determine the outcome of the game at crucial moments, skill throughout the game helps to maximize the chances of winning. There were a lot of offline tournaments where a newbie beat up professionals without having that rich game experience.

Both. All the skill and right plays still often fail against a moment of bad luck. Skill will take you further though, as eventually luck runs out. Just sucks to sit through a long tournament only to end up losing to some lucky fool who beats your pocket Aces all in with their pocket deuces right at the bubble because they flopped trips. Just happened to me at ACR, but then I guess at that site I have come to expect that.:elefant:

At long distances, poker is a skill. But luck plays a specific role. Luck in poker is applicable for games at short distances (for example, a hyper-turbo tournaments).

The easy test to see if someone is full of it when they say it is all luck is to let them know that if this is luck then you won't mind me making your poker decisions in a heads up match against me.

Surely they will win 50% of the time and when you take all their money you can say better luck next time.

The player who mentioned the luck amount is determined by the round speeds is correct (or number of hands in some tourny's). The longer the tournament is the more it allows skill to shine, much like if you played against someone for one hour as opposed to playing with them for a week straight. Not only does that allow a more even card distribution, it also gives the players time to study the other players more and gives time for skill to overcome luck.

I think they compare it to blackjack because blackjack can actually be beaten so they are saying it is a skill game. The only difference is if you are good at blackjack they will ban you, thus making it not a skill game.

luck doesn't exist, that's just something we use to describe the hand with weaker odds occasionally winning.,,..

poker is a skill game, that skill applies not only to th ehand but knowledge and use of knowledge on oppoinents etc

To win a tournament you need some luck too, but to get far in a tournament im sure the skilled players will come further then the less skilled players on average.

Once I read this phrase "every hand is winning but not everyone wins" and I fully agree with it. You just need to properly evaluate and react properly and with that time there is a problem

Hi in my opinion is 70 percent ability and 30% luck, because if you have a winning hand and you do not get as many chips as possible, there was no ability to play the hand and if you go all in pre flop with AA is lack of ability also but if you lose with 2-7 it's bad luck, that's why I give 70% to skills and 30% for luck that we have. regards

Both in my opinion definitely. Although I give a slight advantage to knowledge, but certainly that luck is a very important factor in poker. Whoever says that only for luck, poker has never gone deeper into poker analysis, and that has never played serious poker, and therefore do not take it seriously. You must have knowledge of some of the more successful poker successes.

I agree with terryK. To win tournaments, you have to mix your skills. Make chips from different ways. blffs, hero calls, hero folds. Not only waiting for AK. Thats why its not luck.

I'd always say you got to have a combination of both. You got to have the skills to assess the current situation, and even if you have great skill, you can still lose out from a lesser skilled but a very lucky player.
