Is poker passion or addiction to gambling?

Good poker players aren't gambling. They're try to make the best play based on the odds combined with their reads.

Bad poker players gamble. They often don't even understand the odds of the game, and make their plays based on emotion, boredom or whatever else they happen to be feeling at the time.

Passion and addiction are one and the same for me, sometimes the passion goes away, but the addiction remains

I usually set myself a limit and I never ever go past it. No matter how hard it is not to tilt, I just close the game and immedietly just start doing something else. Poker is pure passion and a hobby for me atleast.

If you are playing solely to make money, poker is an addiction. It's not the poker that is the drug, its the money for these kinds of players.

If you aren't playing for money, poker is obviously a passion.

I do not play poker for money. Yes I USE money to play poker, but I don't play poker FOR the money. I often play on Poker Stars using the play chips for this exact reason. Stars is awesome and we Americans can't play for real money thanks to our idiot government... but I don't care because I don't play poker to make money. I play poker because I love poker. Poker is my passion. It isn't my addiction.

Poker can be a passion and a addiction.

For me poker is a passion and my screen name tells it all. I dont like to gamble. Never had and probably never will. Poker is a game of skill and there is the difference. While we do play for money and that's ho the score is kept so yes there is that part of the game, I play mostly the lowest of stakes. Weather I win a tournament for $20.00 or 1500.00 does not matter. I get the same thrill winning either way.

Both or the other way

In my opinion both passion or addiction, it can even be a third way a job, many play poker for passion, others play for betting addiction and others already have poker as a profession.

Good way to kill the time. Don't want to solve it, as it's good that i can do something what takes my attention away from everything else, can focus for something for long hours, days, weeks, months. Anyway, also don't care if someone see it as addiction or passion.

Probably, I would spend the same amount of time with poker, if it wouldn't even include money, or would be only play money games out there. Doing anything else instead of poker really became pointless, total waste of time - even would call destructive life-shortening artificially created insanity.

Poker is passion. If you would have constantly sucess over years, you must learn alot. Not only on the rules, also your personal and mental fitness. Especially the downswings you must handle and they do not influence your game. To have longterm success, you must develop the game. You must knew the new trends of poker. Also you must love to discuss with other players the hands and the decisions. I think passion for the game is the key for longterm success.

For me, the passion for playing poker is stronger than gambling, but I do not deny that sometimes I become a gambler more than my passion for the game that I can not stop playing especially when the badbeat hits me, even though I know the Badbeat controls me, I never stop playing Until I lose all my money. In the past , many years ago , it was passion and addiction , but the last years I have complete control over it , over gambling generally , casino , poker , sportsbetting , etc . I know what I can achieve , my capabilities , my odds to win . Rarely I might go on tilt anddestroy small bankroll , but this happens rarely and the $$ lost are not many . So nowadays it's more like a hobby ,maybe passion for fun not so serious or with addiction for sure .

I have pure passion for the game and am slowly learning to break away from gambling. Gambling is part of the game and can be very addictive if one loses control of their emotions.

Poker is a game, if you like the game you play and enjoy! If it becomes addiction you are in a wrong and dangerous way and must get out of there. If it is a passion, it might be a kind of addiction too and generally it is not wise to get carried away from a passion, when you play a money game!
