I do not play poker everyday. Usually, I play 3-4 days a week, on average 4-6 hours a day. Poker is not the main source of income for me. Poker for me is a hobby that brings profit.

well as it is with me im not working or playing. No work no money, no money no poker. When i do play its online in micros and cant get ahead. Way to many River Rats hanging around. I always have better results if i can play a more expensive game. But then i have to eat. So there you go. I say play poker and work less. If your dedicated study daily you will prevail. Have poker as a side hustle.

Keep your work and play poker, let's say 2-3 hours a day. Till you've reached to a level where you can make on average 2-3 times your income from your job, keep your job and don't quit. Also always play with solid bankroll.

You should answer yourself several questions. Is your current job interesting for you or you work it just for the money? How you treat poker? Is poker interesting for you so that you constantly try to improve and learn new things or it is just a way to relax after work?

If you decide to switch to professional and quit your normal job you should be ready to play for at least several hour every day, constantly learn to improve your game and accept the fact that your income will be affected by variance. To be successful will require strict bankroll management, hard work and discipline.

Maybe best would be to just take one or two weeks off your current job, try to play for several hours every day and at the end calculate how much you won (is it comparable to your current job) and do you feel that you can do that constantly. This way you can take the final decision based on this experience.

My opinion does not need to hurry.
If you win, you will have a lot of motivation. But the problem with online poker is that here the rooms are trying to make money from the players much more than they should be. Earn in online poker with dignity is possible only in big games, which implies your high theoretical training.
You will do the right thing, because you want to spend some time on a trial game for 1-2 months.

at the moment poker remains for me just a pass temp.but if I have the chance to earn money in the long term.i could consider playing 12 hours a day. becoming a regular player is a dream that for me deserves some sacrifices.

Good luck with making the transition from hobby to fulltime. I can foresee the headaches from making cashes to make payments on time affecting gameplay a bit for someone doing it as a living, but with enough studying and discipline anything is possible, just have to keep working at it. Probably more than anything the financial strain is what throws me off from going hobby to fulltime, not having the same amount of cash flow coming in every week or month, etc.

Post updates if you do end up going fulltime and how it was worked out for you,

I think the flow happens more naturally, to be honest. I couldn't imagine "quitting" a job to play poker, but I could easily see myself noticing - over time - that it isn't poker taking time out of my job, but my job taking time out of poker. I, jokingly, describe myself as a "Professional poker player, enthusiast lawyer" but without my occasional work as a lawyer, I couldn't fund my poker playing. This is despite being a winning player with an ROI of about 111% - because I only play tournaments, my variance is quite high, and therefore need to supplement my poker income with actual work.

Dont quit your job. Poker isnt going anywhere. In any casino a seat is open and waiting for you . In 5 or 10 years there will still be online poker. Always keep your Job . Keep poker as a Hobby. something you do for fun !

For me its like this...i have played poker since years and that was my only job. When i finished some months in break even , that affected me emotionally. I needed money so much,

Now i have a real job and i play poker in my free time and its feel ok even when i'm break even because i earn money from the real job

I’m considering this path myself (although I still have 2.5 years on contract before I can leave the Navy), and have decided that I need about 100-200k (separate from my bankroll) in savings before I seriously consider the transition. Because if you are constantly worried about wagering the money that you and your family depend on to eat and live, you won’t be as effective at the tables (playing scared money). Plus, have the conversation with your family about it to measure their comfort with it also.
