I honestly try not to think about where the other players are from while I'm playing.. If I'm bored, I might hover over the other players to see if there's anyone from my country playing. Don't let it affect any of your decisions.

Many of them are very good and capable on poker , it's not about numbers but for ITM/ATM results , the same as many Brazilians (who might be better on the whole by the Russins , not sure enough , just saying )

I laughed when I saw this thread :) I see a lot of crazy aggression from Russian players.. and Brazil too, I guess. Maybe it's because there's so many of them? I see many great ones too.

I always watch out for slavs because they like to play agressively but don’t ever judge someone 100% because oftheir nationality

From my experience I think it rests on the levels you play - and I am a relative bottom dweller so I see a lot of nonsense play.

I would agree with fundiver199 that there are a lot of 'emotional' players from South America particularly in comparison to Russians (or other Eastern Europeans) who I find ruthless but with sound fundamentals. That said of course you can face overly aggressive and wild players from anywhere and everywhere.

In fact if I stick to my lane and talk about free rolls, specifically open rather than private, I find Americans often are the most over the top in their playing style - thoughtless hyper aggression on display 24/7. But I step back from that narrow perspective and remind myself many favorite players hail from the US which underscores generalizations are fairly redundant.

I personally think that players from Russia, and a lot of Eastern European countries for that matter, tend to play very aggressively. While I concede that there is a lot more to a player than the country that they are from, I do take it into account when deciding how to respond to some players actions. If I'm suspicious of a big bet from an opponent, I might wave my pointer over the player's name to see what country they are from as part of my decision making process. As I said, I've noticed that players from a lot of Eastern European, and quite a few south American countries seem willing to make big and even all-in bluffs at a higher frequency.

I don't know if it's by chance, but most of the recreational players that I get at tables are not from Russia

I will never rate a player based on their country of birth or residence. More important is how he works at the table. For Example, Negreanu. He is Romanian, but lives in Canada. And when they talk about Negreanu, the last thing they raise is the question of the country of his birth or residence. In the first place, there is always work in poker and the end result. Greetings from Russia.)))

IMO Russia is a more conservative country with some old fashion ideals in place and communist. In this country machismo is alot more prevalent men are men and manly and I think this trickles into attitudes when they play poker. Which is why alot of you say they are aggressive by nature at the poker table. This is not true of all russian players and I am not stereo typing just pointing out why some of you might find them more aggressive and why they might in fact be more aggressive at the tables.

I also think they are some of the best and brightest players out their leading the way is Igor Kurganov. Games of strategy like chess as well they seem to excel at.

I have played with Russians alot in the last year or so, mainly live and I can say alot of things about how they play for instance, the older players are generaly tighter but not tighter than the average tight player, they're solid. Younger ones however, tend to bluff alot and be more loose and aggressive and they normaly bet 40 percent of the pot when bluffing usually late to middle position, and when they go all in you can always be sure that they have a massive hand. I like and respect Russian players and I feel most confortable playing against them.

comfortable to bluff)
