Feel like most people underestimate how hard making money off poker really is, as a game vs current competition, as a discipline, as a bankroll manager smh OMG
The goal is to do it like Holz win a million just buying in a series after retiring :)

I agree poker as a way of making money is a very difficult business to get into so I'm sure most people outside of the game will view it as an underrated way of making money successfully

I'm only learning so not anywhere close to making money full time playing I'm just hoping to not play so terribly people see me as an easy way to make money themselves

Good luck out there

Yes, it takes a lot of time and mistakes to learn in. You have to learn in the hard way. And i think thats the way you appreciate it even more.

poker is a hell of a job, I compare it to working as a loader because your goal is to earn money for a living and not lose it, control your Bank, it doesn't always work out the way you want, you need nerves of steel, composure, determination, not all people earn money in poker due to the lack of discipline of ludomania

Start with a bankroll of $10,000.:stupido: Get all the promo's/freeby. play a little. Then withdraw the lot . Repeat it all again, on all poker sites. If your any good after that, you should be making money. Most of it on free entry.

It is an underrated game. You hear all the time that poker is a "solved" game based on the percentages and the statistics, but in a game where "bluffs" are an element there will always be an evolving meta.

Its maybe not that hard to make some little bonus money playing small stakes with a lot of recreational players but to make living you have to study and improve your game a lot especially if your goal is high stakes. Lately a lot of these players study GTO, solvers and other stuff which costs money and is pretty complicated for normal people like me.

Making big money playing poker is a very insoluble problem for me, but I can win a little money at poker. You just need to spend a lot for this time.

Hi Friend

Perhaps, in my case for example, my brother teases me when I play, telling me that I will never win money because the algorithm of the game does not allow me to do so.

Yup very underrated but very profitable if you play your cards right and practice bankroll management. My goal is to be consistent and profitable as I can. I know there will be downswings and losses that's completely inevitable and will happen. But the willpower to withstand and endure with zen master discipline is the key.

Gamble responsibly.

First of all, poker should bring you pleasure. I think that's the most important thing. If the game will bring you pleasure, then over time it will bring you money. :)

Poker is the greatest thinking game there is.

I know most people usually counter and suggest "Chess requires more thinking". Not at all. Chess is not even close in the level of strategic thinking required. Mainly, this is probably due to the fact that poker is a game of incomplete information, and that is where all our strategic decisions come from. In chess, we can "see our oppoents hole cards". We know where every one of their pieces is on the board at all times. That bores me and I don't find it to be a fun thinking game at all.

I challenge anyone to name another game with the strategic depth of poker. I'm not asking for ego purposes, I'm actually asking because I would LOVE to find other games which makes me feel as strategic as when I'm sitting at a poker table. I've yet to find a better game in all of my long life, and I've been looking for decades.

That's because for almost all average players, it is most certainly not an easy way to make money... the way to make money in poker is by finding small edges over very long periods of time, it is a small dribble of money that eventually adds up to a larger pile of it, if you are a solid strategist... there's no easy route to riches in poker unless you "get lucky" with a big score along the way (which does happen, I'm not saying it can't or won't, it's just very rare and very luck-based in the short run).

I fully agree with you that people under estimate how hard this game is to be profitable.

As for the Holtz theory, I think we should remember why we go into this game in the 1st place. We started for the enjoyment of it.

I agree.

This fact makes poker a great practice for oneself.

If you are able to master yourself (your emotions, your habits, your skills), you will be able to master the game of poker. ;)

Thank you Hugh!

This quote right here is gold:

"I really believe that this is one of the most underrated things that people don't work on: being better losers," Holz says. "Really constantly understanding that losing is just part of the game. I think really dealing with losing all the time is one of the key things in poker."

It sure is difficult. Even more today that it is more balanced. In the past, some players had a lot of advantage, nowadays you can't see them anymore. It's much harder, really.
