A couple more years and it will no longer matter in global terms (although of course it will matter tremendously to you guys) whether America ever gets straightened out or not.

Unfortunately, it matters to us in Canada. Here in Canada, we don't make much of our own policy; we prefer to import it watered-down from the US. Must be some kind of retribution for prohibition. :D

As an American, it is the ignorance, and anti-intellectualism, that people like you show, that make me wonder when I'll have to move to another country. I feel that the prosperity the United States has had over the last few hundred years (a blink in time), has made some people think that they deserve it without actually working for anything.

Is it a coincidence that a complete lack of intelligence in posts so often corresponds to the support of Bush or McCain politically?

No form of government is perfect, and the problem with democracy is that an uninformed population cannot be counted on to make intelligent decisions. As the popularity of anti-intellectualism increases, I fear that the IQ of our future presidents could be on par with that of our dead ones.

Idiocracy style.

This is so true it is scary. :(:(

excellent post, Hisx, the same thing is happening here in England, people are content to dumb-down, and to be dumb-downed.

You are not wrong, and do you notice how our so-called leaders won`t take responsibility any more ?

Recent example: Secretary of State for Education hires new organisation to mark examinations. New organisation is incompetent and the school year ends before the children get their grades back.

Does the SoS say, "I screwed up, I will resign." ?

Not these days, just carry on regardless as if it doesn`t matter that everyone knows he is not up to the job.

Yep, and our 'leaders' dont even give a sh*t anymore, it seems, they allow themselves to live apart from everuone else, in their own little fantasy world, where money is no object(and if it is, then they just give themselves a hefty payrise), knife/gun crime doesn't exist, fule bills are not a problem, and they all have jobs for life, etc.
Meanwhile, the majority of britain struggles on, from month to month, not knowing what way we're gonna get shafted from next....................
oh sorry, hate talking politics, really do.

But even the people of britain seem to celebrate 'dumbness', look at the likes of Jade Goody(who?), making millions for being thick, hooray, what a hero to us all!

Rant over, for now!
