I'm sitting in a SNG with 3 players left and this message pops up in my chat box in the bottom left hand corner of my screen. I hadn't chatted/typed in anything for the entire sng, which was about 50 minutes. It was a random letter generator. The message said I have 100 seconds to type in the correct name that it showed, and that it prevents people from using automated programs. I typed what it said and the chat box went back to normal. This is the first I've seen of such a thing. I didn't read the whole thing in entirety, I wish I had, but wonder if I would have been disconnected, warned or had my account suspended.

I've never heard that before.

That's pretty cool. At least they're doing something.

I got one of those about a week ago when I was 4 tabling at $10NL, it was pretty weird and I've never seen it again since then.

Yeah I've gotten that once too

I was 9-tabling at the time and almost didn't notice it cause the windows were small and the chat boxes were overlapped a little bit by the other windows!

Had to blow one of the tables up to see what it was.

I guess you could avoid it by typing "gl" at the beginning of every tournament/table. I have never seen it. Can you possibly guess why?

I haven't seen it, but then again I do chat a little bit while playing, you know with all my fans taking time out of their busy schedule to watch me or play with me it's the least I can do ;).

But if it did come up, there's a chance I'd miss it while 9-tabling.

Interesting.

Gotta wonder what happens if you're sitting out, but then I assume it'd be smart enough to realise that if you're sitting out, you're probably not a bot :p

A sit-out bot. That's an interesting idea.

BTW, if they challange only players who don't chat, it is very easy to circumvent such measure. A bot could easily have a set of sentences to type once in a while. It can be even hand-spacific like "nice set", or "that sucked" after a bad beat.

Damn, I hope you won the SNG since you were playing so bot like to trigger this sort of response from them! :D

Actually, I should look it up in the Hand History, but I think it was 2 unbelievable hands that I won with all-ins preflop. Then the 3 of us remained and it came in the chat box. I'm pretty sure I took second in that one though. ;)

Not quite. In a war between two machines, the first machine has a considerable advantage. The 2nd machine would have to distinguish between human chat and machine chat programmed by humans. If the machine chat is context-sensitive and uses a large number of phrases, it would be practically impossible to distinguish, even by humans, let alone by machines.

I think the bot wars will continue and no one will ever emerge victorious. But the bots have an advantage becasue poker sites have to distinguish between human play and machine play, and that will never become 100% possible.
