QJ better than AK heads-up

I have posted this in "general" as it's not strategy but just an interesting observation.

I was running some odds and found that vs. pocket pairs QJ suited is a favourite vs. under pairs, but AK suited is a slight underdog. Anyone else find this mildly amusing?

The title is just to catch your attention, I am aware that AK is ahead of a much larger range that aren't pocket pairs

The difference between AKs and QJs is very small, around 1-2% it is not really important, both hand will be coinflip vs pair.. QJs has little more equity, because have the probability to make open-ended straight draw.

It's a pretty good observation. AKos vs TJs vs 22, you let me pick second and you'll lose every single time.

QJ suited plays decently heads up but obviously is significantly worse than AK. You can run into over pairs because you don't have the blockers. Also, in heads up play top pair is generally nutter butters so if you have QJ against AQ KQ or AJ you could potentially be in a devastatingly bad situation in regards to your reverse implied odds.

It is interesting to see, but I'll still take AK due to the percentage of times that AK is in better shape than QJ. I am far too poor a player to take advantage of that 2%.

yes it's true, against small pair QJ is little bit better than AK, but I will allways take AK against QJ,... statistics is lying most of the time :joyman:
