taking a survey.....how many people prefer JJ over AK preflop???

It depends

on

- chip stack
- blinds
- tourney or cash
- MTT or SnG
- aggressiveness/passivity of those behind
- structure of payout and proximity of bubble
- position at the table
- limpers or raises ahead

But assuming I'm under the gun at a tourney first hand, then AK because I wouldn't be looking to get my stack in with either and AK plays better post flop.

Based on playing FL cash games, my gut reaction was AK. Having checked PT stats (based on 25, 000 hands - 134 JJ, 248 AK) I've won 58.57% with AK and 48.41% with JJ. So, AK is my favourite!

I hate J's pre-flop!If I can see the flop cheaply I will hang in there,if not I fold. I've won maybe 20% of the time with them!

AK vs JJ

AK is fun to play, especially in position, and I can get rid of it on scary flops.
JJ is okay for heads up, but other than that it is just another pair and I'm looking to make a set with it.

I probably win more pots with AK, but I probably win bigger pots with JJ. All things being equal, though, probably AK. It's a little easier to play.

Interesting. I've had another (closer) look at my PT stats for AK vs JJ. JJ is showing 0.69 BB/100 compared to 0.61 for AK. Interestingly, I've found that I have noticeably less hands were I lose a significant amount with JJ than I do when play AK. Maybe I'm over playing / over valuing AK, or maybe I just fold JJ more readily when there are overcards on the flop.

I think I need to replay some of my AK hands in PT to see what went wrong.

I would always take AK over JJ, and JJ is probably my least favourite hand of all...

I was gonna suggest to you Bolt to chk the bb/100 or even bb/hand.

JJ wins 1.59bb/hand for me whilst AKo and AKs wins 0.37 and 0.31 respectively. so deffo I prefer JJ over AK. In fact 44, 66 and 99 all win me more than AK

JJ is almost a sucker hand. It has three overcards that most opponents who see the flop, see the flop with. And even if you just call with JJ some donk who called with 27o flops 2p and hoses you. Definitely AK for me.

Interesting comparison jag. I'm guessing here that you favour NL, whereas my figures are based entirely on FL. Even so, I'm a little surprised that JJ is so dramatically more profitable for you than it is for me. Maybe you are just a better player than I am

AK is like, infinitely better.

JJ is hard to play imo, you either lose a big pot with it or win a small one

i dont understand why everyone is afraid of JJ....i have seen so many people get in trouble but it all depends on how you play them and how well you get your money and others money in the pot....i have seen people have AK and the flop has nothing for them....so they bluff and they make continuation bets and end up geting called down by JJ..

It's probably a good note that J's are only slightly favored pre-flop against AK. Something like 56% to 46%.

J's are a made hand and would be preferred shorthanded or heads up. But at multiplayer say 6 or more i'll take the AK. Although I wouldn't kick either of them out of bed on a cold night.

JJ = 1.34 bb/hand (that's big bets, not big blinds)
AK = 1.31 bb/hand

They're close, and I think I love them both equally.
