question about disconnections in tourneys

hey

i was wondering if im in a tournament on pokerstars. is it alright if in the middle of the tournament i turn off my computer and if i turn it on again if my chips are still there? how long can i stay disconnected before they kick me off the table?

You stay in the tournament until you are blinded out.

When you are disconnected they mark you as sitting out. They continue to take the blinds from your stack until you go broke.

Depending on the tourney and how deep you are though, they'll give you sometimes up to a few minutes to reconnect. I've always wondered if in a tourney that's close to the money (which is why in big ones they usually do hand for hand, but they don't do that in all tourneys) and the blinds are approaching you, just disconnect to give other tables time to play hands and thus increase your chance of staying in. Of course that brings the risk of you sitting out when your AA comes that would have doubled you up and guaranteed you money.

Why would you do that to begin with?

The only reason I can think of is to abuse the "all-in protection" that some sites offer.

That's exactly right. To see the showdown without having to pay? Also, if you want to sit out, do they not have an "auto-fold" option? Bodog has this and I use it when needed for personal breaks. I may come back and see I just folded AA/KK/QQ/AK, but it was my risk. Otherwise, if you can't play poker to the showdown, don't play.

I mentioned one reason, you're approaching the money, in danger of being blinded away. Standard time only gives you a minute or so, you wait until that time's up, then disconnect. Not sure exact time but it feels like forever when you're on the connected end of it. If this is a MTT with payouts to more than final table, forcing another table to go through 1 or 2 more hands can make the blinds hit the small stack at another table thus giving you the money. It's a stall tactic, not sure anyone actually does it though, because it's possible the next hand would double you up as your check-folded hand like AA goes bye-bye

They do hand-for-hand in every tournament I have ever played in, even the freerolls. This would do nothing more than sitting out would do except be hard on your computer. Is a game worth that?

Try disconnecting your internet instead of shutting the entire computer down

On PS, the only time they remove sitters from a tourney is when you are completely blinded off. You can sit out, become disconnected altogether, and they wil just take out your blinds and antes everytime around until you're broke. In one or two extreme cases, I have had to leave a tourney before it was over, and come back later to find that I'd cashed.

I just wonder about the abilities of the player who has to resort to tricks and exploiting the safeguards in the game in order to gain an extra spot or 2. Low integrity also comes to mind.

on full tilt, if u sit out it folds every hand for u, and when ur big blind it folds after n e raise so u cant just sit ther and see the 5 community cards, the only way is if blinds put u all in then obviously u see it.
