everyone put their faces like, "you're gonna get addicted and lose all your money!" still kind of hard to tell people you play poker just to have fun...

Well, most of my family worries about being addicted to gambling, but somehow they are interested when I say I'm starting to study poker etc.. My wife in the other hand, doesn't like me to play while she's home, but, when I tell there's a freeroll that pays about 200 dollars she kinda let me play, as long as I don't put our shared money in play.

My parents think I'm a degenerate gambler lol

I was losing massive money at one point (several hundred is a lot for me) so they weren't wrong?

Also I told one of my colleagues my hobby was poker and the first thing they said was "well everyone has their vices" so I NEVER tell anyone I play poker now.

"How was your weekend?" Even if I won $1k that weekend I say I didn't do anything because in reality all I did was poker lol

Is your family supportive ?

My family doesn't like the idea of me playing poker at all. Even though I don't spend much on depositing, they think i spend too much time thinking about it, reading, playing sessions for 3-4 hours etc. I am 21 years old, a student, living with my parents. Any of you is or has been in the same situation ?

When you start to book some significant wins and have a good record people will be supportive or they will start hate in on you when I lived at home my dad would give me shit about reading poker books and watching vids on the game but I got better and when I started buying my girl friend diamond rings and booking 7 day cruises he started hating me even more lol **** him as for my friends i could care less I guess it doesn't really matter if their supportive if I'm interested in something I don't need anyone's approval to do what I want.

It can be a good thing that your family at least cares about you. My father was addicted to blackjack so I had the opposite where he would take me to casinos underage. I guess there are two sides to every coin. I am sure if you become successful enough or you keep it as just a hobby and have a job your parents will come around. Just try not to gamble outside of your means and you should have nothing to feel bad about. If poker makes you happy then go for it.

My family aint supportive too, it's like i start using drugs or something xD, but whatever, they like football why cant i like some other game, if someday i won something big, certainly whey all will claping and saying they believed in me all the way long... XD

I tried explaining it to my mom once, and she clearly wasn't getting it. She wasn't not supportive of me playing, but I don't think I could get through to her that this game was actually about skill and not just degenerate gambling. So I don't bring it up with her anymore.

My dad seems to understand it better. I can talk to him about the psychology and game selection and he gets it.

But either way, who cares? I enjoy playing.
